Great atmosphere on a saturday night, packed and yet we got to the bar easily and found somewhere to sit. Although there were loads of empty tables with 'reserved' on them - who they were reserving them for at about 10.30 on a saturday night I don't know. They were fiercely protective of them, dare we sit on one of the seats and they were over in a flash to tell us they were reserved! Not the flashiest of pubs and not the best decor either but the atmosphere is good.

OK for Saturday lunch - a bit rough around the edges and the seating arrangements could be rationalised to their advantage but a very friendly welcome and efficient bar staff. Food is very good value - even cheaper than 'spoons - and of a good quality. Two ales on - Sharp's Doom Bar (one of my favourites - so they get extra Brownie points for that) and Bay's Best Bitter. I knocked off many, many Brownie points as both beers were served far too cold, but Mrs Os added 'em back because her wine glass had been chilled in a freezer and her vino shipped in via the Arctic - so she was happy too (for a change!).

It's a rough and ready establishment, that one can vist to, (or, so we thought) have a bit of fun, a dance and generally, a good time, so, after our meal we decided to give the place a go. Unfortunately, one of the "doormen" (who refused to give his name, incidentally) has a real problem with abuse of position and ordered us out for dancing and generally enjoying ourselves. We are a group of respectable fortysomethings, who can hardly be described as members of the "Oi, oi, saveloy" brigade. Needless to say, we were outraged and challenged this person, who, because he couldn't give us a valid reason for ejecting us, called the police. His attitude was deplorable, and we are all going to take this further.

A good place for lunch during Saturday shopping. Limited choice of bitter and served too cold (like most pubs) but otherwise OK. Food is good and reasonably priced
