Well situated pub, with a pool table, dart board and 3 large flat screen TVs and even a TV in the garden supplying a great atmosphere for any sporting event at no extra cost to the customer, with entertainment every weekend Karaoke, Live Bands, DJ, and Live Sports. Hot food served throughout the day with a large selection of Beers, Lagers, Spirits and Wines served by friendly staff and in a welcoming environment at a great price! An added bonus is the large garden with barbeque ideal for summer days and children.

nice little pub me and my boyfriend went there for a quiet night, but didnt think it would literally be just that, especially on a Friday, bar staff were quite rude except the little one, and i could have died of thirst by the time i actually got my drink. i dont think it is a regulars pub and that may be the problem, shame though would be a nice spot for a laugh if you had the right crowd.

Thought this pub was ok but not great, the food was really good but thought the service wasnt great and the bar staff have about as much life in them than a carrot. Some of the regulars were freindly but others just seemed like they didnt want you in there pub. This is'nt what i would call a booming pub there never seems to be many people around only time is early evenings when the truckers are having there dinner. The land lady always seems to be in a constant bad mood but the landlord is quite friendly but overall its ok at best but wouldnt be making this pub my regular.

Wonderful family ran pub. There is a large variety of cheaply priced drinks on offer, marvelous bar staff, great food and the locals are always on hand to chat away to anyone and make you feel welcome. A+ . Will definately go there again.

I remember the first time i ever went into this pub,I was a bit nervous as i always am going into a new pub. As most people have probably experienced at one time or another going into a pub where the regulars are clicky and make u feel like your not welcome there. The first time i went into the Ship all the other punters was polite the bar sevice was fab you cant beat service with a smile and thats what i got. Since then im quite the regular there myself the entertainment provided is great the quiz nights on sundays are great and the amount of money they raise for basildon baby unit is absolutley fantastic. I highly recommend this pub***************

It is true that after winging about the lack of entertainment on my last comment, i did miss the musician last saturday but i was there a few weeks ago for an excelent karaoke session. (chris82 aka mummas boy, didn't sing hehehe!)

This pub has everything you need to make a great local. chatty locals, friendly staff, comfy surroundings and cheap beer. I highly reccommend it to everyone.

I moved into the area about a year ago, and was introduced to The Ship by a friend. I have found the pub to be very friendly, especially the staff, with some great entertainment, mainly on friday nights, however recently some saturday nights too. Actually i was in there last night (a saturday) with Beth81's husband (Beth wasn't there...), and we were providing backing vocals to a great singer/guitarist! The food is really good with large portions at low prices, and all live sporting events are shown on 3 TV's. I've drunk in a lot of the local pubs, but none of the others come close to The Ship. 10/10

After moving here from London, i struggled to find any local pubs that were welcoming, untill i went in here. The staff were polite and friendly and remembered what drink i was having even when i went back two weeks later.
Every time i have visited this pub, i have ended up in conversation with many other of the locals (something i have never done in London).
Although i have never visited this pub on a friday, i can highly recommened it for a quiet drink on a saturday.
My only problem with this pub is the lack of entertainment on a saturday. It could do with a disco evry now and then.

As to the last review i dont know what pub this person was in but it was not The Ship Inn in West Thurrock.I was there on the night in question and the only trouble was 1 person being pissed up and thought he could fight the world and tried too spoil everyones night. luckly staff sorted it and the night ended well

Don't gop in this pub on a Friday night.......
Upon walking into, what seemed a cosy little pub, I was horrified to find a man grinding his girlfriend up the bar! Horrificly, no one seemed to share my disgust, and everyone just carried on as if this live sex show was normal!
After ordering half a lager and nearly swallowing a beer fly that was in my drink, me and my mate left to find somewhere a bit less frightening!
Well, we walked past the pub again about 1/2 hour later, and there was a fight going on outside.
Wan't danger money if i go in there again...........

I have lived in the area all my life and have tried this Pub on and off for many years recently things have turned round with Live music and plenty of large screens to enjoy the football with. the landlords don't seem to have stopped decorating. I find the place clean and friendly. the food is cheap and very good with portions to fill even the hungryest person and the beer is always cold. a great Pub much better than it was in years past

I moved into the Grays just over 2 years ago and worked in the city at the time. Being a'city worker', I wanted somewhere to go on the way home that was local and easy to get home from. I tried The Ship Inn on London Road one night back in November 2004 and felt it very 'clicky' and unwelcoming. I didn't try it again. That was until I started to work locally.A workmate told me recently that The Ship in West Thurrock was under new ownership and was a good place to go for food and a night out,so I decided to try it. Me and my partner went there last Sunday and there was a quiz night. We got invited to join a team and even though we lost miserably, we were made to feel really welcome and comfortable. We're going back on Friday for the entertainment. For the people who have msgd on here who've had a bad experience, it really must have been a one off and you should really try again.

i'm a new person to this web site but not to this pub. i have used the ship inn as customer on and off for three years and i have read what has been said about this place and i would like to defend it. the new owners have been in the pub for 16 months and have done nothing but try and please everybody including a lot of charity work for the local hospital, putting varied entertainment on and quiz nites. i personally think that the people writing thses comments are very confused people and they may have gone to the wrong pub in the first placethere is another pub of the same name which i can beleive the comments made but anyone reading this should go into the pub and see for theirselves!!!

If you want to visit a pub where you'll be welcomed, don't go here.
I ventured in with a black friend, and was nearly lynched by the mob of local drinkers, who made it abundantly clear that he (and I) were not welcome. I have since had a conversation with a work colleague, and he related an incident where he and a relation dropped in for a quick half. A scruffy bloke sitting by the bar, got up and blocked their path. "You can stay", he said to my friend, "but we don't want you" he said, pointing to my friend's relation.
How this place remains open for business, remains a mystery to me.

Having moved to the area and walking past every morning I thought I'd landed on my feet, from the window I could see a cosy pub, open planned but with screens next to the seats, with front bar, lounge to the left (dining area just to the back) and games room to the right.
Going in was a different matter, the locals must have known how much I like An American Wearwolf In London as they recreated the Slaughtered Lamb scene sadly missing out shouting "keep to the roads!" Out of 3 handpumps only one worked and that cobntained Bass which was so gopping (it had essence of vinegar in it!) in a more welcoming pub I would've taken it back, instead I did a runner!
