Regretfully this has gone down hill big time.
The grumpy old git that runs it has got worse in his attitude, and yet he is merely a barman.
Yesterday on our arrival, with our two pubdogs in training. He falsely accused of having the dogs out of control 15 seconds from entering.
He was extremely vocal and some what sectarian in his attitude..
Perhaps this could be the reason is for sale. some hat over priced at £220.000.

For me this is the best PUB in Ayr. A real traditional boozer. No kiddie alcopops. So a NED free zone. Up to FIVE ales available and dogs on lead welcome.

This is a great place - a proper friendly old-fashioned pub with possibly the best beer in Ayr, a lively atmosphere and no pretensions. Its location is unpromising (it's north of the River Ayr, which in local terms means it's in an undesirable area) but well worth finding - as others note, it's only a few minutes' walk from the town centre. Highly recommended!

Shame this has a listing at the end just because it is technically in Wallacetown as opposed to Ayr. It's only a few hundred yards across the bridge and it's without doubt the best pub around. The beer is cask ale, not hand pulled, but excellent nonetheless. It's populated by a welcoming group of discerning locals and looked after by two charming ladies.
Our golf tour ended up there last week (3 June 2010) and enjoyed Red McGregor and two other guests.
Compared to the ale desert that surrounds it, Geordie's Byre is an oasis.

The best pub in the Ayr area both for it's feel and it's beer. Tends to have a better selection than the Wetherspoons in town. It's a bit of stroll out of town but worth the effort.

A 'proper' pub populated with pleasant locals - helpful barstaff who were pleased to help you choose a malt whisky or two. 3 or 4 well kept ales were on handpump. The front bar was quite busy - there's a lounge at the back which we had a look at - very cosy, but it was closed. It's not far out town so don't be put off. We went to the Malt Cross in town first and it was only a 10 mins stroll over the bridge to get there. Well worth a visit - best pub in Ayr.

Can't understand why there aren't more reviews for this place - it's the best! Maybe it's because nobody knows where Wallacetown is - I'd never heard of the district 'til I read this.
Move it to Ayr!

If you want a really good pint this is your pub. Very quiet with a lot of regulars. Well worth a visit.
