This pub was in the news today for all the wrong reasons. A couple of months ago the pub was burned down in an arson attack. Today a 'disgruntled barman' was sentenced to 6 years 8 months in gaol for the attack. Let's hope the pub is rebuilt and re-opens.

Great real beer. Excellent food. Good atmosphere. Wonderful!

This place used to be a superb local back in the good old days when David and Janet Harrison ran it. It's still a good place for a drink in the early evening (good selection of well-kept ales) or a light lunch with a pint. The gastropub it has become has rather changed the character of the place. The prices are indeed on the top side (not just the food - a pint of Copper Dragon cost 3.10 last week!). I have found the food (and the service) to be less than consistent, not always helped by the slightly sloany and arrogant comportment of the younger staff.

This is a good gastro pub whose reputation rests on its food backed up my good beer and wines. I agree that the service can creak under pressure and the pricing is toppy. But we have never been disappointed and go quite often thanks to the wife who really likes it (she does not see the bill....).

Wonderful pub with good beers, food on expensive side though.

Pate good
Smoked salmon/prawns: salmon good, prawns bad.
Excellent fillet steak, but no veg included & no warning/advice from staff.
Salad dishes: mediocre, little salad qty & limited variety.
Sweet menu placed on chair with no word from staff.
Incorrect sweets brought.
Was busy, but staff attitude very poor.
Good beer.
Very expensive for what you get.
Will not visit again, can get better meal & service for less money elsewhere.

The meal we had here was OK, but I can't believe they make you pay extra for the veg! As a pub it's marvellous... all stone floors and nooks and crannies but I don't know if i'd eat here again... they also had a problem with flies! The barbecue outside looked good, though.

civilised country pub, 2 miles north of Ilkley on the edge of the Dales. Top English nouveau rustic menu: meat 'n' taters with a sprig of...,cooked to perfection and served with style. Real fires, outside seating and a fine selection of booze.Tasty!
