Lovely pub, with nice lager and very reasonably priced food (and good too!).

Wife and I stopped in on a Friday lunchtime earlier this month. Pub almost empty, couldn't see why 'cos it seemed fine to us. Decent beer, and what we ate (chicken) was perfectly OK. Service fine (of course, there was hardly anyone else there).

Used to frequent here in the 90s when i was a 6th former (shh) and when I came back from uni. Was handy for the wheel, just nipping through the cut to west walls. Been back a few times since and its still a decent pub, nice ber, cheap food on in the day, nice old style booths, and as said it benefits from not being down Booze Canyon (tm) and attracts a slightly better crowd.

Ok pub in historical area, one time hells angels pub many years ago! Nice area and away from yobs & chavettes throwing up over each other down beautiful Botchergate!

Pleasant pub with friendly staff and real ale. Hot day so we went to the beer garden and it was the size of a telephone box. However very nice pub all the same.

opened an hour later than the sign said outside- nice place- clean and quiet (in the afternoon) only one Real Ale was on whilst we were there.

I like this pub and often call in for one when I'm in Carlisle. The main problem is that the beer quality is very variable. Every so often you get served a pint of vinegar, OK they change it for you, but it simply shouldn't be on the bar. It's a good pub and friendly but sort the beer out otherwise I'm going to have to start giving it a miss.

I used to like this pub when it was known as the Board, at that time swearing in moderation was allowed (see next comment from anon) and the barstools would then be used as missiles occasionally. Getting old is of course not avoidable. Social exclusion of foul mouthed oiks is not universal just yet, thankfully, after all they (we?!) probaly provide a lot of the services you use. PS its a pub.

The best red wine in this part of Carlisle - shame about the oiks swearing as they played the fruit machine which drove us out, and this was in the early afternoon. Why don't landlords make this scum leave? Perhaps they spend a lot, but building up goodwill can bear forth fruits.

Quietish pub opposite the Cathedral which provides for a great view if you get a window seat. Real ale served.
