Fox, Chetwynd Astonback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A very busy Brunning and Price 1920s roadside hostelry/restaurant with their usual décor (e.g. local interest paintings/maps). 3 handpulls from Three Tuns (Best, XXX and Solstice) as well as Magic Dragon's Obsidian, St Austell Tribute and their house Original. My pint of Best cost £4.50 and was in very good condition but tasted a little caramelly; my slightly cheaper Original was more to my taste and in equally fine condition. The Sunday lunch befitted a successful, popular, upmarket chain (although I had to ask for gravy to accompany my nut roast).

A very smart gastro-pub. If you want a meal I'm sure it'll suit you but if all you want is a drink you'd be just as well served somewhere else.

Visited for lunch on New Year's Day. Pub was busy with all tables booked and people being quoted an hrs wait for a table. Beer quality was excellent ( Salopian Firkin Freezin'). Food was also really good, Mrs PBH really enjoyed the Salmon Quiche, service was effiecient and freindly.

Nice pub. Beer in very good condition from a choice of four real ales. We only had the one as the extorionate city-centre prices were prohibitive. Food is also good, but fell foul of the unforgivable error of cold plates. Talking of foul, the confit de canard was dry and crispy, certainly not how it should be. Service isn't great. No smiles, no enquiries about the meal, etc. Strange custom of serving tea/coffee crockery before pudding, then not clearing the pudding dishes before commencing coffees! All making for a cluttered and messy table. If only they treated their customers as well as their beer!

I have had a couple of very enjoyable Sunday lunches here. It's a spacious pub with a lovely garden. Food is good and there are plenty of tables inside and outside so even on a busy Sunday we didn't have to queue. Beer is excellent - always at least four cask ales on tap, usually sourced locally. Staff are friendly. Can't really fault it. A gem of a pub.

Great foody pub. Good food and demand for tables supports this. Ales consistently good over last year. Bar staff have all been very good. One of the of the best pubs near Newport for sure.

I wne t to this pub, somewhat sceptical of how good it really is. Well, everything looked good, from the outset, carpark heaving, and I had concerns that the inerior would be also. The frontage belies the enormous interior spaces, well-lit, open fire roaring.... The range of cask ales was good, and the" Shropshire Hop", was good, but surpassed by the truly wonderful Salopian Brewery's "Oracle", with its stunning after-taste of berried fruits (sound a bit like a wine snob?? No chance, I'll not be rinsing this beer down the drain, too good to waste :D) The menu was impressive, and the Gloucester Old Spot sausages, with mash and onion gravy wasvery filling, The pub's reputation really is as good as it reads on BITE. Truly, this is the way forward, Well done to Brunning and Price, this was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I'll be recommending this pub to all.

An excellent pub. 6 beers on when I visited. I tried three and all were on top form. The food is a little more upmarket but is very good. Huge beer garden.

Large semi openplan , modern country pub . Slightly upmarket with varied clientele . 6 cask ales on my visit , Hobsons best , Shropshire lad and Highgate mild can`t remember the others . Food very good seems to use a lot of local produce , Staff seem quite young but are enthusiastic and knowledgable . Wine is good quality [ bottles not boxed ] . Not the cheapest pub around but well worth a visit .

Exellent country pub to be in all the food is great. some great ales to drink aswell. Got a great beer garden too.
|
Good beer , great food (belly pork is to die for) great looking barmaids (the wife says the blokes are not to bad ) would be 10 out of 10 if slightly cheaper and a bit nearer civilisation .

What a success. In the 30 years i have worked and visited this pub it has never been so good. It has achieved what a thousand pubs wish they could; clean, correctly staffed, the right mix of beer wine and ambience. I just hope this small chain stays that, a small chain ie 14 pubs. If they get any bigger they might lose that personal touch. Lets face it, 14 freehouses all turning over a min of 1 mill, on margins of 60%, with no shareholders, family owned, you dont need much more. Well done chaps, keep up the good work!!

Extremely smart pub catering for National Sports Centre and attractive nearby village, local beer OK but hard to appreciate without eating I think - worth a trip

Well kept range of regular and guest real ales. Excellent food but a bit pricey. A couple of real open fires. Spacious interior with scrubed wooden tables, wooden and tiled flooring. Located on a quiet country lane with views over open farm land from the large beer garden. Some of the barmaids are worth appreciating too.
