White Horse, Hurst Greenback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Up for auction in February (2014) and being sold with approved planning permission for conversion into two houses.
Seems unlikely to remain a pub.
Another one bites the dust.

Excellent Harveys Sussex Best at just before 3.00 about 2/3 the way on a Rother Walk from Hawkhurst to Robertsbridge recently (June 6th) - they close at 3.00, and if we had wanted food - sorry! One of the staff/family was having a rather delectable looking and smelling steak and fried onion roll; and a party finishing their lunch looked well-satisfied. One definitely to go back to .....

Some of the comments on here seem really harsh! I've been going to this pub since it opened and have found it to be the friendliest in the area and it definitely serves the best food..... They sorted the garden out in Summer 06 and on a Summer's day sitting out there with a pint and an eye on the view is a lovely way to spend the day. I'd definitely say it was worth a visit....and not least of all because some of the waiting staff are incredibly easy on the eye! :)

I tried this pub again, the food now tastes as good as it looks but I still do not like the enforced service charge, it's a PUB!

I loved the decor the moment I walked in, total class (maybe the outside could do with the same tratment?) and the reception and greeting was excellent, not many places have "properly" dressed staff anymore, a good waiter who was knowledgeable about the various dishes left us at ease and smiling in anticipation, sadly we were let down, the meals were ok'ish, they looked good but lacked flavour, garnishing oils and vinegars do not make up for tasteless unseasoned ingredients. I hope that this was just a temporary glitch though, and I will return to see if the package has been completed soon. On a positive not though the White Horse has the most stunning views across the valley, if its cold then nab the table right by the doors, if its warm then get out onto the terrace, stunning.

A very expensive "gastro" pub with the service charge to match! pretty food that looks better than it tastes, I won't be visiting again.

I'd heard about this pub from friends in the area who were raving about the food. Went along to take a look, and how impressed we were! With some good competition in this part of Sussex, the White Horse has to be up there with the best. Not overly busy on Saturday night (although perhaps not too surprising as it's only just re-opened) and certainly not at the cheap end of the market. But classy interior and sophisticated ambience makes this a really good 'night-out' destination. In addition to the exquisite food (Michelin trained chef??), there's a nice selection of beers and wines which avoids the chain pub brands - and not an alcopop in sight! In short, a bit of well-kept secret at the moment; but it's not likely to stay that way.
