Toilets could do with a clean

Agree with Odin, surpassed themselves at the weekend, had hangover Sunday to prove it. To see Furyon for free was a top bonus, awesome.

This place gets better and better. Couldn't drag myself away last Saturday. Loads of bands playing for free including Furyon and a hardcore outfit a Rolf Harris looaklike.
|
Did I say best metal pub in Brum? Must be one of the best Metal pubs in the UK! Metal bands playing upstairs for free Friday night and if you didn`t like their particular shade of noise, then you could go and watch the free bands downstairs! Brilliant, Horns up!

The smoking area, right in front of the front door, must be more densely populated than Hong Kong.

Great for harder music fans. Beer ok, the Guinness is spot on, and the clientele are salt of the earth. 7/10

Since the Gallows got burnt down and Costers closed, this place is clearly the finest rock pub in Brum. No real ale but usually serves a decent pint, that doesn't hurt the wallet, though when it is busy, and the staff are rushed, the heads on the pints can be an inch bigger than they should be. Improved on Saturdays, since classic rock was moved upstairs and the modern obscure stuff demoted to the basement. Sometimes they have bands on, which are usually worth a listen.. The place attracts a broad clientele, metallers, rockers, bikers, punks, goths, emos and even a few stiffs passing by on their way to clubland in M&S shirts, chinos and shiny shoes.

Yeah best Metal pub in Brum. Beer prices not too bad, efficient door staff and full of `characters`. And if your lucky decent free live music!
|
Beer is reasonably priced for a city centre pub and Guinness is usually drinkable. Has improved on a Saturday night since they moved the classic rock to the bigger room upstairs, and put free bands on downstairs. Be very careful in the gents, the floor can be very slippy. Bouncers react very quickly to fights.

Excellent pint of Guiness. Best rock music in Brum and good crowd. Not much seating though especially downstairs. Generally very friendly staff and revellers.
|
Best Rock bar in Brum. Friendly staff and regulars, good music especially downstairs on a Saturday. Gents toilets could be better (no hot water)

Probably the last decent Rock pub in Brum. Okay they don't serve real ale, but they serve Athestones cider - lethal! It's a good pub for the alternative scene and is friendly with decnet bar & door staff. Long may it Rock and live on!!

trying to be irish quite badly,no real ale, blackthorn though @ 2.60pint,6/10

Don't touch anything on draught and don't use the toilet. Great music and friendly service. Could be cleaner but i suppose this is as good as it gets nowadays. I give it 8 due to the dodgy beer.

Excellent bar with thumping heavy music and an alternative crowd.

Prices are reasonable, service is quick, staff are happy and up for a chat. You can meet a lot of nice people in there so don't expect to get your head kicked in if you accidentally bump into someone! This place is totally packed at the weekend and when gigs are playing at the Academy down the road and the music is ear piercingly loud after 7pm on weekdays and 6pm on weekends, making it hard to go for a social drink after work. Basement floor is open at the weekends playing 80's classic rock, unless there's a gig on and you can expect to hear heavy metal/thrash upstairs. Overall, I'll give it a 9 because i'm always there!

It's alright in here isn't it! Went in after a gig finished early at the academy on Tuesday. Cheap and cheerful, we had a good laugh for an hour, especially after being ripped off in the academy with warm carling sold at 3.05 a pint. Good mix of people too.

This is a nice place to hang out for an afternoon. Plenty of cosy/cramped seating and nowhere is ever really far from the bar. Nothing special in the booze department but it's cheap and served up with a smile. The kind of place you can get chatting to random people and before you know it you know their life story. A good excuse to pester my Brum mates for another visit!

If you like your music loud and heavy, then this is the place to go. Okay, they don't sell real ale but what they do sell is cheap by city centre standards and served by friendly staff. Also has a good mix of clientele, from accountants to goths and bikers.
