The Windmill isn't the smartest, trendiest or cheapest of pubs, it doesn't try to be, it's an honest local where almost everyone seems to know everyone else and their business!
I've been going there infrequently for the last 20+ years and have never had a problem and have always been made welcome. It's fun to watch the tanked up locals making fools of themselves on the karaoke, nobody cares it's that sort of easy going pub.

As a member of the darts team, and a regular in the pub may i say that any time we get strangers visit, we try to make them as welcome as we can. the bar staff are very friendly to new people (providing the dogs keep quiet... otherwise they may shout a bit!!!!!) but, this is to the dogs NOT the customers. anybody reading this will be welcomed at the pub with pleasure.

I visited this pub very recently and, as other comments posted on here, it certainly did very much feel like a locals pub.
Not saying it was unfriendly; the atmosphere was fairly loud and quite boisterous but nothing OTT. The bar staff were functional - not service with a smile by any means but not unwelcoming.
The beer is all standard stuff and not too expensive. The decor is tidy and reasonably well maintained, nothing special or that detracts from the atmosphere.
Sky sports on plasma screens is a prominent feature and the pubs promotes regular karaoke and supports Darts Teams which again, adds something to the previous comment about it being very much a locals pub.
Overall, OK. Not bad, not good. If you're looking for a quiet drink with friends, this isn't the place to go but if you're looking for a quick and reasonably friendly pint, you could certainly do a lot worse than this.

The Windmill pub in Dartford is situated just away from the high street and is a small tatty old place serving, I presume, a very loyal but definitely local bunch of customers. I found it to be quite friendly on my visit yesterday (18th Dec) and certainly had no problems with paying 2.00 for my pint of Fosters, but as with the case with many other locals I have ventured in, I did feel a tad uncomfortable as an outsider. If you are new in the area or just looking for a pub to become a regular fixture at, then I think The Windmill is a decent enough place to make your home, otherwise, Id give it a miss.

Further to my previous posting, just wanted to say to all the old regulars that I have had just received a Xmas card from Bert & Cynth - both are fine.

I was a regular here for 10 years during which time some of Dartfords roughest would happily mix shoulder to shoulder with local businessmen under the watchful eye of Bert, the no nonsense, long standing landlord. There were 3 darts teams (2 male, 1 female), quiz teams, card schools, Sunday meat raffles, even shove hapenny. Many of the regulars, myself included, did sessions behind the bar and it was a real community pub and often packed with local characters. In the years since Bert left, there have been a succession of dubious landlords and all the regulars have either passed on or moved on leaving just the bare shell of this once hospitable tavern. Nowadays, I rarely see more than half a dozen people in there when I walk by and everything they do to attract people is usually done better elsewhere in town. I occasionally visit more out of nostalgia than loyalty and to be fair it had improved a little the last time I was there (at one stage it had plastic flowers that resembled something out of a funeral parlour). Basic keg bitters (admittedly they never did real ales even in the good old days) and not much in the way of food. Housed in a wonderful old building, there have been a couple of refurbishments in recent years but the basic layout remains the same. I doubt that the Windmill will ever be what it was it is quite apt that the framed history of the pub on the wall inside ends with Bert.
