Visited the West Hill on two recent sunday afternoon/evenings. The beer was excellent on both occasions (Tribute & Sussex Best). The pub was suggested by my daughter, a vegan, because it offers a carvery with a regular vegan option all day on sundays. The food was as good as the beer. Reasonably priced, good quality and served piping hot with a smile by the friendly staff. Different staff on both our visits. One young guy from Sussex uni and a young lady with dreads and tats. Both attentive, cheerful and assets to this pub. I was born into the business & have run a busy ale & food house for forty years. I would recommend the West Hill to any of my friends and have done so! THEPINKCAT

Harveys Sussex Best and Summer Lightning which was a degree or two too warm. Also Westons cider on draught. Pleasant enough pub, helpful barmaid.

Great pub this. Went there for the first time recently. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. And a very entertaining quiz.

After a period of changing tenants the Belle Vue has settled down and much improved under new owners. The staff are friendly and competent. Nice cider and the usual selection of lagers, Guinness, etc. Good selection of traditional and not so traditional food. Only thing I'm not so certain about is the change of name from the Belle Vue to the West Hill.

This pub has been under new ownership since July and is now called The West Hill.

I spent a late saturday evening in this pub and it was great. Not too crowded, the staff were excellent even though we were rowdy having been on the lash all day.
Great pub for a late night drink at the weekend!

The Bell Vue seemed friendly and quiet at first. Our order for Sunday roast was taken with an inclusive dessert,as with our money of 10.Our roasts arrived quit promtly.Roasts finished and where asked if we would like a further few mins before previously ordered dessert to be served.Waited, then told dessert ordered had all gone.Alternative dessert offered but not liked by any one.The chef was unhelpful, refused to explain how this had happened and left the bar man to liase. Left pub with a token of 1 back and no dessert. Very poor to minimal customer service.

A quirky arty sort of place in the best possible way. Definitely Brighton.

I went there only once, but had a great time. The landlady is brilliant and makes everyone feel welcome. If your are near Brighton Station and waiting for a train, walk up the hill towards the dials and give it a go.

Great pub. I have never had anything but a great night in here. It's open late on the weekends and has a nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly but not imposing so it dosn't feel like a 'local' which is fine by me! Prices are normal centre of Brighton prices (i.e. 3.00 a pint) but you get used to that in Brighton!

Very ordinary place this one, does not stand out of the crowr at all. One gripe of mine would be smoking at the bar. As far as I know most pubs have banned smoking at the bar, but it seems that this one does not give a monkeys. Also in general its a very smokey place what can ruin a nice quiet evening out with my bit of squease.

Makes its money by having a very late licence. A lot worse places in town for a late drink if you want a real pub as opposed to a club

Good meeting place for groups looking for a non-smokey beer or three, nice and airy and just up the road from the station for those out-of-towners popping down for a pint. Beer is pricey.

I would recommend the Belle Vue, good selection of drinks, friendly and no idiots. However it used to be superb with the best looking bar staff in town (Ice Queen, Foxy, Ten Gallon Bum, Torpedo...), cheapish lager and bargain pool at 40p (later put up to an extortianate 50p) and table football. Then the bar staff left, idiot wannabe 'lads' started hogging the pool and the refit meant a 40p rise in the price of a lager. Theres now no pool but at least the 'lads' have gone and its improving gradually. No TV by the way.(Foxy, please come back)

Top pub. Near to town, massive screen, good selection of beers, if a little on the pricey side and a top Sunday roast. Pool table great and it's rarely ram packed full.

Banging house music seemingly for the benefit of the ugliest barman in Brighton makes this place not where to meet new people - you cannot even hear yourself think.
"Can you turn the music down?" "What?" "I said, can you turn the music down?" "What? Can't hear you - the music's too loud"
The outside has been painted to resemble a wedding cake but has been "brightoned" up by our local graffiti artists.
The beer is exhorbitant, warm and is normally spilt over you by the staff thing.
I give two stars purely for the view out of the window which is the only thing these incompetants can't f*ck up.

in replt to the previous comment - not so sure - i liked all the "old" stuff. was one of the true brighton pubs for me. still - the refurb (after a few teething troubles with chefs) hasn't done it any harm. the new owners are still learning what works with the punters but i have to agree the new 50p pool table is the don.

This pub used to be a bit old but since its refurb is now a really nice place to go for a drink! Great food also and a new fab pool table and big screen, i'd highly recommend!
