Beech Tree, Hazlemereback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This pub is now under new management and is due for a complete refurbishment, inside and out, in January 2014, during which time it will be closed. The food is now all home prepared and cooked on site, using fresh local ingredients. Curry nights offer authentic Punjabi Indian curries, prepared by a Punjabi chef.

DO NOT eat at this pub. Service was awful, we waited 40 minetes before we decided to leave and go somewhere else. The pub itself is shabby and old/ broken. People who came in after us had finished their meals and left without us even beginning ours. It was clear on the barmaids face that we had been forgotten about- she made up an excuse that the pasta was taking too long to cook. pasta? really?. The pub was almost empty- only 2 other groups were dining there which now makes sense after receiving such bad service we will certainly not be returning. Overall the place was tacky and disappointing. Requires serious work on furnishing, service skills and general image. Car park offers a car wash service, frankly i found the men intimidating and threatening. They really shouldn't employ bar staff with short term memory loss. I hope the landlord reads this as something really needs to be done.

Wow what a surprise. Went to this pub recently and had a meal which was amazing. Yes it did take 40 mins for the meal to arrive but the waitress apologised and explained that it was because all food was freshly cooked and mine was done in the oven, which takes longer. Other people who had steak & chips were served quickly. Excellent meal & worth waiting for. Lots of fresh veg provided and my husband's burger also home made with a lovely salad & fries. Also unusual real ale which went down well. Will certainly go back soon.

i do hope the landlord reads these comments, i will phone him tomorrow and maybe he will get in touch with the very interested employers of mine

went there today, 1 and 1/2 hours sat outside waiting for a roast,a very dizzy girl had took our order? my partner feeling very hungry went back to the bar to chase the order after the 1st hour because other people ariving later than us were being served,, she was told " what was it you ordered, we had already been asked earlier by the dizzy girl in the garden are you waiting for food?, The chef, landlord, got involved fair enough, offered my partner straight away drinks, and said 10mins, i personally thought why so instant the offer of drinks, it was obvious the order had not gone through, hence dizzy girl, we would have been happy to wait the extra has long as we were kept notified, by the way the pub was not that busy, i myself then went into the pub and said to the young scruffy guy behind the bar, can we please have our food that we have already paid for because it was now taking the piss? he told me straight plse do not swear in front of children/ fair enough being an ex landlord and now working for a local paper i apologised for saying piss? also wondering why there is child of(3 APPROX) SAT A BAR , im sure there,s some law there ayho? I walked back to the garden. 2 minutes later the chef/Landlord walked over to us in the garden and was aggressive to me and my partner and mother and told us not to swear in is pub? fine but it was the way he handled himself, Aggressivly, great all i wanted to do was have lunch,i know from experience that the courts and police dont let convicts/idiots gain pubs easily now, this pub has a car wash trading in its car park,(5 thugs washing cars) it lets down what used to be a great pub, so he was quite comfortable being rude because of the thugs he had working there. (backing him.) The pub advertises on a (A board) outside as being the best restaurant of the year, in bucks? by the bucks free press? remember i said where i was working now??? the landlord?chef was dirty and thuggish? other diners in the garden also commented on the landlords behaviour, i will give him a second chance but will take a male contingent, maybe he might behave a little different to a guy with two females, but really i cannot be bothered.

9 of us including 2 grand children visited the beech in high wycombe after supporting run for life that morning. We all ordered food and was told it would be 30 to 40 minutes. So we all sat outside and patiently waited. After about an hour we were told it will be with us in ten minutes. Again we waited. One of us asked again and it would be another ten minutes. This was now hour and a half. Eventaully the grand daughters burger came out and her mum broke the burger in 2 to find it was not cooked at all in the centre. This was the last straw and we all got our money back and went else where. 15 years ago my wife myself and 2 daughters lived in the area of the beech tree. Then it was a good pub to visit. Not anymore. The party I was with all said we will not go there ever again.

I have been going to this pub since leaving" The crown" due to poor service & rude staff. The reputation of the beech tree was not good but since it was taken over by the present landlords it has improved considerably. Now family run it has good real ales together with a warm & inviting atmosphere. You are made to feel welcome & with a new chef the food has improved ,o much so that i travel 20 miles to visit.

well great pub 20/25years ago if the owners has a time machine go back in time... dirty uncomfatble and service to dread.
|
Certainly gone downhill over the last couple of years.

This pub was a real gem...20 years ago. Has been subjected to many refurbishments and changes of landlord over time, and has been left devoid of character. Big Screen Football, Chips, Lager , Sunday Family Lunch Deal Offers now the syle. Attracts kids with loud sound systems in their Clio/ Golf. Has car park where they can show them off. On main Amersham Road, so you can let the traffic distract you from the poorly kept bitter. A sad place indeed.

Oh dear what a disaster. Theakston bitter was on offer - so it seemed promising. The barmaid, who looked no more than a teenager, was more boobs than brains. After five minutes of rigorous pump-pulling I was handed a glass half-filled with beer and the other half with froth. I didn't stay for a second pint (or half). On my way out, I noticed that 90 percent (that's more than I got) of pints sold - were lager. I wonder why?
