This used to be a great little pub back in the day, but I don't like what it's become now. My wife and I stood in the front bar waiting to be served the other day and were patently ignored by the staff. They had even glanced over and made eye contact when serving someone else. We just looked at each other and walked out. Truly appalling customer service.

Nice old building reminiscent of a village pub in the centre of Bedford. The interior seems to have lost much of its character. Most punters were drinking on the rear patio, whilst there is also a small outdoor drinking area at the front. This is a Greene King pub - IPA and Abbot were available, plus Black Sheep Golden Sheep as a guest. Westgate Sun Dance and Roosters Yankee were listed on a blackboard. But there was no sign of them. The steaks served on 'volcanic' plates looked nice. Similar to many other Bedford pubs, there are some impressive hanging baskets outside. In fact, these were identical to the Bedford Arms - somebody is doing a roaring trade!

Staff are nice enough; need to remember whos got what place in the q though. music's ok, bit rugby and posh school crowd; but at least you wont need to be on penicillin in the morning if youve pulled.

pleasant pub, regular live music, passable Greene King beers + guests
|
Great pub with nice friendly punters, good beer, nice bar staff and not a chav in sight. I live just outside of bedford. But if i lived in the town i would make this my local :)

Great pub, decent beer and live music, what more can you ask for??

Still a great pub and the change of management has made no difference to the quality. If it ain't broke don't fix it eh? The ales remain fantastic: is there a better pint of Abbot to be found in the town? Food still plentiful, decent quality and very reasonably priced.
If anything the pub has become even more popular in the last six months or so: visit a few pubs in the town during the week and see how empty they are and then compare it with the Ship which seems to have a constant buzz of people. That must say something in these times.
Not the cheapest pub around but at 3 for a pint of Abbot not totally unacceptable. Quality is worth paying a little more for. Still the best pub in Bedford town

great staff. lovely atmosphere. fun summers. come along

Decent old pub, with friendly staff. Even the Greene King IPA tasted pretty good (which is not something I say very often). One of several reasonable pubs within walking distance of the eastern edge of Bedford town centre.
|
Fantastic traditional old pub. Best pint of Abbot Ale in Bedford...no question. The food is excellent as well and very reasonably priced.
|
well kept beers, lovely pub

The oldest pub in town and perhaps the coolest. Clientele of all ages. Live acoustic music on Thursday night. Can get very full at the weekends.

Quality food, ridiculously well priced, including locally sourced sausages from the butcher a few doors away. Split into three separate areas with one separate room which is non-smoking and has been long before non-smoking areas became en vogue. Well kept ales (Greene King) and very friendly staff. A real gem of a pub in a town that sadly lacks decent boozers.

Decent pub, nice food, friendly cat.

Nice pub with rear parking and a beautiful patio area with heaters. Food good value and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.

Nice pub just outside the town centre, serves food between 12 and 2pm, has a outside seating on a nice patio garden, has separate smoking and non smoking rooms.
