Popular as the only place open till 4 that isn't a club. Gets a mix of locals and students. The back room has loads of different events throughout the year, and has live bands and dj nights regularly. Some events are hosted by the uni societies, and so charge a small entrance fee. There's a cracking open mic night here every other Sunday evening during term time.
The Angel is your typical open late, sticky floor, busy, noisy venue popular with students and young people.. Although saying that it does have a darts team and is a very different place during the week!
The only beer here is Hancocks HB which, to be honest, isn't great. Probably best to stick to the Worthys.

Why this place is so popular is beyond me!

The Angel's definately not everyone's cup of tea - you'll love it or hate it. You'll get almost a complete cross-section of people in here and that's part of the appeal. Probably not a pub for anyone too worried about appearances, and there's the odd fight too, but nothing ever gets out of hand. Staff are always nice and friendly, give it a go!

Excellent value Sunday lunch here for the students amongst you. Got a dancefloor out the back and usually plays more specialist music. Excellent gambler selections with a wide range of interest games. Not the best selection of beer.

Popped in at the weekend hoping for a pint of MILD. There was no MILD but Hancocks HB is worthy of note. The bar staff were very friendly and pointed me in the direction of the "Ship & Castle" for a pint of Brains MILD.

Visited here a couple of weeks ago. We went in for just the one, and ended up staying all evening. A little rough, but friendly regulars, and not too expensive at all.

If ye have tears etc. I should imagine that once upon a time this was a nice boozer; it ain't now

Average place with high prices is saved by the lat-licence large function room which hosts Indiesoc on a Monday, Rocsoc on a Tuesday and usually a locals Now That's What I Call Music ho-down on the weekend. And it's next door to a kebab house.
