This is probably the best pub Marlow has to offer. But it's a fair way out of town and up a big hill. The Rebellion Brewery is just down the road. We went there afterwards and it was doing a roaring trade. But the Three Horseshoes predictably had a good range of ales from them - IPA, Smuggler, Zebedee, Blonder & Saint. But I was drawn more to the sight of a real cider, a rare sight indeed in these parts and the only pub of 13 I tried in Buckinghamshire over the course of the weekend to stock one. It was Old Rosie, but felt like striking gold. There were very few customers in here. All were drinkers. Judging by Snarling Mallard's review, it probably gets much busier when food is being served. Nice enough place and worthy of a 7/10 as pub of the day.

More restaurant then pub. Only a small drinker's area by the entrance. I didn't rate the beer much but I was comparing it to the brewery 'pull your own pint' offering from the open afternoon down the road so am probably being over critical.

Dropped in here for lunch. Nice place with good food and an excellent selection of beers from the local Rebellion brewery. Service friendly too.

A walk from Bourne End to Marlow via Flackwell Heath enabled us to make a lunch stop at the Three Horseshoes.
And what an excellent place it is. A bit of a restaurant to be sure, but to be greeted by a row of handpumps all selling Rebellion beer is a sight to behold. I plumped for the Roasted Nuts at 4.7% and jolly fine it was too. No-one of us was alcoholically disappointed.
And the food was pretty good too. An extensive menu, but to get that pub feel we would recommend the Horseshoe Breakfast, an all-day breakfast forming a veritable food mountain on the plate, all for a mere £8.95.
All in all, a spot on alehouse. Now, how can I find an excuse to return ?

Large pub on the old road between Handy Cross and Marlow. Interior is mostly given over to eating but unlike many pubs you won't feel uncomfortable if you just want a pint. The beers are all from Rebellion Brewery and kept with almost obsessive care. Unsurprisingly given the quality of the beer, the place itself is always spotless. Haven't tried the food so can't comment but for a simple beer few pubs in Bucks come close.

Better known as a pub restaurant, beer is excellent from local brewery. Food is variable from good to excellent, maybe just one bad night with the ribs which are normally excellent and always good value. Check opening times, don't think it opens on Sunday evening which is a shame but mid-week it is busy and has a large bar area if you 'just' want a beer.

My first impression was that it is more of a restaurant than a pub. Very busy at lunchtime and the food looked very appetising. Only passing through so just a a half of Rebellion Green Shoots - very good. 6 ales on including Mutiny, Mild and Blond(e). I will return when in the area.

Great pub in wonderful surroundings as well as being very welcoming. 4 of us ate here for the first time yesterday and were all impressed with the range of beers which were all in excellent condition. The food was also great with plenty of choice from a superb menu. The portions were huge, hot and full of flavour. Will be coming back here very soon

Visited here last weekend. The beer was great especially the 'Roasted Nuts'. Being from outside the area this was a more than plesent surprise. We also ate and the food was excellent with the chef being able to deal with a fod allegy that one of our party had.

Paid a visit here on Friday 13th, no luck was needed, had 4 perfect pints from the Rebellion stable and the portions from the Seafood basket were huge. The beer has always been good on my previous visits and getting served is never a problem (Wetherspoons take note). Probably the best pub in the county imho.

And again this week. The seasonal ale Roasted Nuts was back on, being a winter ale. As good as I remember it from last year. The Rebellion Brewery are brewing a beer for each month in 2009 called their Monthly Ales 2009: The Financial Crisis Range. The one for January is called The Weary Banker, and ignoring the obvious set up for spoonerisms was a very nice light pint.

Back in again this week, with American and Japanese visitors this time. Again did not disappoint. Six beers on. The usual IPA, Smuggler and Mutiny, were joined by two seasonal Ales Blonde and Revolution. Can recommend the Blonde, very nice pint. A nice touch is that they now do tasters in small egg cup size glasses, so you can try before you buy.
|
As noted it is very food oriented, this is the sort of place you would take someone out to eat. The beer was superb but as it's a short walk from the Rebellion Brewery it should be! The bus stop is right outside the pub so easy access to Wycombe and Henley/Reading. I will certainly visit again.

Beer is very good, but a bit pricey. The Rebellion mild was especially tasty.Food looked good(didn't try), but also a bit pricey.Pub a bit lacking in atmosphere and clearly geared up for food.Worth a visit, but the Royal Standard in Wooburn Common is a better bet(for food & beer) when in the area.

I will add my review although I will repeat most of what has gone before. We go to this pub for both the BEER and the FOOD. A group of us was in the other night (with some overseas visitors) and we went through most of the Rebellion hand pumps. The IPA and Smuggler were on top form. We also tried the seasonal 'Roasted Nuts' which I found excellent, but wasn't to the taste of some of our lager drinking continental visitors. As for the food, gmlatic has got it spot on. The chalk board menu is enormous but is usually mostly something that was formerly living and isn't now. But we always find it well cooked and the portions are enormous (on this occasion 'half a roasted duck, half a roasted chicken, and the chicken and ribs combo was not for the faint hearted. In fact the only person who was disappointed was the veggi. So should you go to this pub ?. If you want an excellent pint of cask ale and can consume half a cow... Yes. If you are vegetarian and drinking orange juice... no

Well, unlike some of the reviewers below I go to pubs for BEER and the beer in this Rebellion brewery tap was in fabulous condition, with a 6 handpulls doing a fine job.
Pub is clean and well-maintained - the interior can be a bit cavernous and they could do a little more with the garden perhaps, but this is a definite must-visit if you're in the area, a great choice for a session.

I had heard it was meant to be good and as I drive past it 2/3 times a week we gave it ago.
Previous reviewers are right there are very few veggie dishes. I found the menu a meat fest it was either sizzling rack of ribs, cajun chicken, fajitas etc, not the food I expected.
I had the steak it was cooked as I requested, and service was fine. And the Rebellion Mld was first class.
Would i go back? - No, the pub is a little cavernous, and there is a fog from all the sizzlers they serve.
If they change the menu then i may consider it

This pub can be packed out in the evenings. The menu looks fantastic as long as you aren't a vegetarian - there seem to be hardly any veggie dishes. Beer is good. I usually drink the mild as I'm a mild fanatic and anyway I'm driving so I opt for the weakest beers.

Had Sunday lunch at the Three Horseshoes today. It was rammed, and it was easy to see why. As previously mentioned, this is effectively the Rebellion brewery tap, and they had six of Rebellions ales on - including the divine dark mild. Food really was excellent, and (unlike the experience of the previous reviewer) the staff were attentive and helpful. I tried the mild and the Mutiny, both of which were (as you'd expect) superbly kept. Great pub, well worth a visit - just be sure to get there early for sunday lunch, or be prepared for a bit of a wait. It's worth it, though.

Close to the Rebellion brewery six of it's beers are kept on tap here including the monthly and seasonal specials and the rarely seen dark mild. The food has gone downhill since it first opened, it lacks atmosphere and the staff seem uniterested but is still a nice pub in an alright setting to sample some local brew. 7/10

Rebellion Brewery's tap house, just 1/4 mile from the brewery, regularly serves all of Rebellion's current brews. The food is consistently good and the service friendly. 7/10.
