Went to Milton Keynes the other day, so I don't need to go there again - found this modern Wetherspoons half way between all those shops and the railway station and enjoyed a reasonable pint of Hook Norton Double Stout while watching the world go by from the terrace so all was not wasted.

A modern, purpose built Wetherspoons in the centre of Milton Keynes. Inevitably it doesnt have much in the way of character, but its a tidy and up together sort of place, perhaps recently refurbished. There is a patio area at the front if you fancy some fresh air.
Its a surprisingly small venue for JDW, with just one downstairs bar and a few seats on a balcony upstairs. Unlike many of the companys Lloyds establishments, there is no sign of a dance floor or DJ console. The downstairs area consists of a double height entrance foyer with floor to ceiling glass windows, and there are modern glass partitions elsewhere. Beyond this is a bar counter running the full length of the right hand side, and a raised area off to the left. Decor was the usual bland, corporate affair, this time with mustard colour paintwork, and there were a couple of plasmas dotted around showing a news channel. The only feature of any note was a gas effect fire with a conical chimney hood and a flue running up to the ceiling.
Beers on tap were the usual Ruddles Best and Abbot Ale, plus Pedigree, Holders Golden Ale and Hopping Mad Fruitcase. Adnams IPA was apparently coming soon. Less successful was the cider offering pumps on the bar were Strongbow and Thatchers Gold, but the latter was off due to a frozen line which I was told would not be defrosted anytime soon. A drinks list displayed prominently on the bar also listed Stowford Press, but this was apparently not stocked at that particular pub!

Least favourite of the city centre Spoons pubs. Limited real ale selection, and half the time it's not in great condition. The clientele often leaves something to be desired. Try the Wetherspoons across the street instead.

Good for an after work pint and one of the better wether pubs. Better than most of them round there. Not saying much mind.

nothing amazing 4 a spoons but then it is in MK! 7/10

Yeah its ok in there, bit bland if your looking for lively entertainment, stick to it if you and your work colleagues fancy a quick pint after work, without the hussle and bussle of nightclub feel.

Yes its good, and will benefit from a large gathering due to the opening of two large hotels next door. Good starting point.
|
fair variety of drinks on offer, like most JDW outlets the real ale is crap
|
Descent Real beer, its a Lloyds/Wetherspoons so its cheap, foods a bit plastic

Secklow Hundred now sponsor the local ice hockey team - Milton Keynes Lightning, Expect to see ice hockey stuff appear on the walls soon. Ice hockey fans are a notoriously friendly bunch, and will almost certainly invite you to a game if you speak to them!

i always go to this pub on sundays just to chill out bar staff always friendly and polite but if you sit by the door when it opens it does not swing shut so if you sit by door you will get cold i like to sit by the fire its nice to sit in pub away from hectic atmosphere of theatre district

Tends to get a lot of the after-work crowd on weekdays and Wimbledon fans on match day weekends. Fairly quiet most of the time, so it's good if you want to get away from the hustle of the theatre district or Xscape.
