The picture of the pub above must be 3 or 4 years old, the pub has been refurbished to a high standard inside and out and it looks great, the people who run the pub are very efficient and friendly. The good thing about this refurbishment is that they have not lost the fact that the pub is 400 years old, which is a good thing! the ale was very good and i had Loddon Ferryman's Gold which was 2.50 for a pint! The food was cooked to a standard i have not seen in pubs before, it was that good! 17 of us ate their on Saturday 15th May in the evening, food was cooked to perfection and all came out within 5 or 10 mins of the first meals put before us, i had the slow cooked Lamb shoulder with a garlic & nettle pesto, it was divine! There are very few places like this left in this Country where the staff are as attentive serving drinkers as they are serving food. I cannot rate this pub highly enough, try it for yourselves! It is just an excellent pub

A great alrounder this traditional pub has both a bar area for those just wanting a drink and a separate dinning area offering quality home cooked food (which I did not try). The large child friendly garden at the rear was great. I too think that James must have been in different pub, having bumped into this pub whilst campimg at the waterfront.

Walked into Benson from the Thames mooring went to the other pub first, one pint later went to the horseshoes ( should have gone there in the first place ). Great evening. good beer, super local atmosphere and really nice couple of ladies behind the bar.
Cannot comment on the food as we did not sample it.

I think James must of been to a different pub, the place is returning to it's former glory with locals ranging from lawyers to bricklayers using it. 1.99 for a pint of Loddon Ferrimans, does that sound like a restaurant?. Visit for your selfs and see what you think>

Having visited again a few months on from take over, It must be said as I have done before, new management want a resturant not a pub, shame for Benson folk because they lose out, an old pub distroyed, now stripped, and painted blandly.......... food over priced, ambience gone, but creditors have to be paid!!

Clearly a locals pub with food added on. Beer in reasonable condition. Nothing special but OK

I have dined here several times in the dining room and have found the food to be excellent and plentiful.

Nice spot off the main road, well worth a look. Spot on Brakespears, food looks OK, Indian specials this week. Welcome could be a little more friendly to strangers, too much time spent on Friends of Guvnor.

Stopped in here for a little light refreshment last week with the wife. There were several people drinking at the bar, and a large chap sat at a stool. His language was the worst i have herd in many years, i don't know if he is connected to the managment as no members of staff cautioned him. Don't go here if you are offended by extremely strong laungage. I shall not be back!

Very nice, had lunch there. With the ploughmans you get an amazing portion. Friendly and relaxed. Liked it very much
