Haven't been here but just to point out that the photograph shows the Barrington Oak (formerly Royal Oak) pub in South Somerset (which has yet to have an entry in BITE)

i'd also like to say that since the last reviews this pub has got new owners, who are completely right for a village pub!!!

I live locally and often pop into this pub for food or a swift drink, or many drinks! i thinks it's a fantastic pub and find the ladlord and landlady very welcoming as are the staff! I eat off the lunch menu, dinner menu and my favorite menu The a la carte menu! I find teh beef stirfry is amzing. I also visit when they have food themed nights, with my favorite being the inidian night! AMAZING. i'd reccomend this pub to anyone , especially peopl with families and dogs! They welcome children of all ages and wellies! Unlike most pubs!
Give it a go, you'll turn in to a regular!!

Wanted a change for a summer friday night drink. Location is nice and the pub is nice. 4 Real ales on and had a good pint of moors. The downside is its an expensive resturant pub with averageish food. Bar staff from south of the equator who are just not right for a village pub and the lack of people in there warm on a friday night shows this. OK for quick watering stop on the waty to somewhere better but would not stop for more than one. Oh yes and I need to say that a side of chips should be more than 8 3/4 inch thick chunks of potato...........

nice, old village pub. expensive & slightly pretentious... average ales.

I used to drink and eat here all the time but its not quite the same since it became a pouplar resturant rather than a quaint village pub. The food is very good but can be expensive. Normally a good choice Ale to be had on pump. Its a nice watering place on a summer evening cycle ride.

this pub has a wonderful setting in this unusually expansive village. very good for a pint outside on a sunny day. food is (straightforward but) very good.

This place is by far my fave pub...it's over 300 years old so I am told, with loads of charms. It is quite a way out but it is well worth the trip for me. The bar staff are very friendly and the pub is candlelit at night. The food is wonderful too. I can't praise this place highly enough. You have to see it to believe it.
