I''ve been to the Compasses before several years back. But I don''t recall it. The welcome wasn''t exactly warm. Locals were occupying the bar area making getting served difficult. The barmaid greeted us with "Are you ok?", as if to say "Are you sure you''re in the right place?". Ales were Salopian Hop Twister & Hobson''s Best & Old Prickly. At the rear is a log cabin that serves a Mongolian Barbecue. The bar staff probably get many people looking to eat wondering into the pub area, which probably explains the frosty reception. Disappointing return visit.

The Compasses, or Jenkos, is known mainly for the Mongolian food experience where you mix your own meal and they cook it for you on a huge hotplate. The food is served in a wooden annex which is annexed to the main pub. The food side is always busy on weekends and is a great night out, albeit a touch expensive.
The main pub area is small but well decorated (the recent update isn't to everyone's taste but I like it). Stowford Press is consistently good, Stella is sometimes flat but the staff are always happy to exchange and help. There are a limited number of real ales. Happy hour 5 till 6 when there is 50p off a pint, which is a help as the prices are quite expensive, especially soft drinks and mixers.
There are only three tables in the pub, two of which are sofa level. The main table is large with six chairs, so you will no doubt sit next to one or two of the locals who are always friendly. There are three picnic benches outside which look onto the car park, so don't go here for the scenery.
Overall, a pretty neutral place, no bad points but nothing to really go there for either, except for the Mongolian food.

Not reviewed for 2 years , decent pub 3 pulls 2 Salopian (hop twister/darwin) and Hobsons bitter all very good , small bar , decor not right , modern wood and white paint dont work , leather sofas dont fit though look comfy , large dining room / carvery at rear . Worth a visit if this end of town

Visited on a monday night. Was very nice, good service, friendly staff. They had a carvery on as well as full pub menu, the carvery was delicious! Quite quiet, and the back room with the food was very pleasant.

When I visited, the bar served a range of beers from the Archers Brewery only. All were well kept. Buffet Style Sunday Lunch was absolutely superb. One of the best I've had. If you live in the local area you can also take avantage of their sunday lunch home delivery service.

A pub with an excellent range of cask and keg beers. It has a restaurant which is open all week, does all home cooked food during the week and a fabulous, eat as much as you want, buffet style sunday carvery.
