Things have changed a little here. The cask ales have been taken over by Little Critters brewery - all six of them. This is a brave move and I hope it works out as it means there is a range of styles rather than just a bunch of pale ales from various breweries that you often see these days. Was puzzled the cricket wasn't on - perhaps it was lunch or there was no interest from the punters. It is just ok, though. Not sure how I would make it great, mind

Visited for the first time last night and will definitely go back to this no-nonsense, good value lively pub. A wide range of cask ales were all (apparently according to my colleagues) well kept.

Judging by the exterior (no time to vist and sample), this pub is in fact seeing far better days *today* than in the past (30+ years ago) from what I recall of it then; also NB: it has been expanded.

Plain locals pub which has seen better days but the range of about 5 ales more than made up for it. In GBG so worthy of support.

Decent enough pub, with reasonable varied ale selection which changes weekly. Monday night is 50p off all Ale... so with the standard price being low as it is, this means if you're lucky you can end up with a 1.50 pint! Never empty, but agree with comments below that it can on some nights become overcrowded. A good all rounder.

A good pub. Given they allow takeaway food, the place is surprisingly spotless. Agree about the occasionally less than focussed bar staff but most of the time they're fine. One question though, Magnet and John Smiths on cask? Is there really a market for those beers ? Especially given the current strength of sheffield brewing.

Excellent for allowing shop/take-away bought food to be brought in and eaten on the premises. Usually a good range of real ales. Usually somewhere to sit - but can get busy. If you are lucky you will get attentive efficient staff - if you are not lucky you will be served eventually by a student-by-day-super-hero by night who will be more interested in talking to other bar staff or friends on your side of the bar than serving customers. Music TV can be loud - but to be fair I don't moan when they stick the Footie on and it suits me.

Awesome pub for real ales... unique in the area for allowing you to take your own food in, providing knives and forks etc... The non-student locals proves the real quality of this pub.

This is not a comment but a question. I think i used to drink in this place many years ago. Then it was a smallish place with a lot of dark wood and nicotine stained walls and ceilings. The landlord was Mr Cocker but I cannot recall his first name. Can anyone help in this. Thanks

This pub brings back some memories, watched an Aston Villa game here against Tottenham on the Sky Sports TV they had, little smokey though this pub, but good for watching sports.

Student frequented pub, bit smoky, small and large TV screens, in a nice area of the city and cheap drinks.
