Handsome grade II listed building - big windows, high ceiling, wooden floors.
Didn't realise it was a Robinsons and found an unusual Butcombe Haka which was perfect.
Really nice pub. Would be my local, if I lived here.

Robinson's pub with a difference in the Market Square. The interior is nicely decorated with a mix of seating. A kitchen in one corner serves food. But the real attraction is the ale selection. The usual Robinson's ales are served - Dizzy Blonde, Trooper & Unicorn, alongside lesser seen ones - Double Hop & Cumbria Way. But they also have Titanic Plum Porter, plus a number of guests - Titanic Cappuccino, Luna Moonshake & Bridgehouse Holy Cow. The real cider is Old Rosie. A new bar called Project 53 has opened a few doors up and the Remedy Bar & Brewhouse is also across the square. I only visited the latter. But it was very good. I have requested it to be added to BITE.

My first ever visit yesterday. No problems whatsoever with the bar staff, in fact, I found them very convivial. Each to their own I suppose...
The fact that they had one of my favourite drinks on - Titanic's Plum Porter, made my visit most memorable.
Classic jukebox in the corner blasting out my favourite songs. This sounds like a Thin Lizzy song haha.
Good solid 9/10 for me.

Very nice pub and as has been pointed out, has obviously had a major refurb in the not too distant past. It looks nothing like the photo that is on here - in fact the contrast is quite fascinating.
There was a fair amount of choice at the bar, a few Robinsons ales plus guests. However, when in Stockport... so a pint of the Red N Black Porter it was, at 5.8% and served in Robinsons branded dimpled glass tankards.
The pub was quite busy but we didn't wait too long to be served, and managed to find a table near the front of the pub. I would be very happy to pay a return visit.

Concur with the previous poster, I went in a couple of Saturdays ago and had a similar issue. It really is a shame tho because this is a really good pub with decent beer.

Another great Robinsons pub, no expense spared, and cracking array of different drinks to suit all tastes. Sadly let down by poor attitude of bar staff on duty possibly due to a recruitment or maybe a training issue? Refused service because 1 person in our group sang, when a quiet word with the individual concerned would have been suffice. Can't cope if more than 1 person awaiting service. Lacks atmosphere as a result.

Appears newly refurbished. Had four or five decent ales on. Nice atmosphere. A must on any trip to Stockport.

Clearly a beer lover behind this establishment. The ale selection is impressive. 5 handpumps with Robinsonso, and 4 changing guest beers. The place has a nice feel, with large windows and high vaulted roof. Fantastic wurlitzer jukebox gives a 1950's/1960's sound to the background. Really worth visiting.

Great pub. Remember juke boxes? Well they've got a brilliant one here. Place was buzzing on a sat night with a good well behaved crowd.

Just spent a brilliant few hours here. 5 non-Robinsons beers, excellent food and cheerful and helpful staff. A very welcome attraction to the Market Place which is otherwise pretty much devoid of reasons to go there.

apparently opening today at noon. looking through the window the other day it looks very good. 10 ales on. Robbies plus guests. with Cocked Hat at the other end of the market, this area will hopefully now be a good venue for a night out

Still closed on our Stockport pub crawl last Saturday (29.03.14).
|
The Baker's closed in early 2014. The brewery have apparently been considering reopening the place, but as Stockport is no longer posh enough for Robinson's pubs, I wouldn't hold out too much hope.
|
Great jazz last night huge turn out but only one girl behind the bar. No fruit juices, guiness, mild, dizzy blond, veltins or much else really. Great music poorpub.

New landlady she is very nice beer not so good still

A good atmosphere, good bands and friendly staff but badly let down by the beer. Robinsons beer is great if looked after properly but the Unicorn here is awful and each time I have been tempted back by a good band I and my friends have had the same experience. It has been mentioned to the licensee.

Great pub with some amazing bands. Staff are friendly. This pub & The Crown are the best pubs for Music!

OK pint
|
The Bakers Vaults is my favourite Pub in Stockport they put really good Entertainment on with really good Bands playing there.....Blues/rock/Old style R&B/Soul everything to suit everybody's taste in music!
|
Quite an arty pub in the market area in Stockport. This was our first pre football pub on Saturday. I believe the landlord opened slightly earlier for us, thanks. Three hand pumps with Robinsons beer; Unicorn, Hatters and Spellbound. Hatters was on good form and was very drinkable. I think it was the cheapest pub of the day at 1.90 a pint. Lots of mirrors and artwork around the walls of the pub.

OK pub. Probably good for gigs. visited one week day early evening and was very quite.
|
Pubs Ok and some of the Bands are good. Saw a band called "Undercover" and have to say that they were Ok but would be better without the singer, she lets them down.
|
Yuk!Looked like something out of the Addams Family, with the mad monk behind the bar. Only Robinsons Unicorn available on the hand pulls, tasted like vinegar.
|
The Bakers Vaults is THE live music venue in Stockport! The standard of bands is incredibly high, particularly on Friday & Saturday when it is advisable to come early if you want a seat. The music is usually Blues, Rock or Soul. So what if they don't stock Parsons Buttock or Throttled Ram - they keep an excellent Guinness!
|
Terrible absence of real ales, which is the reason one might find staff members in the Railway on Portwood.
|
Not a bad pub, usually has some local 'jazz sounds' emitting from the premises on a weekends. Not particularly brilliant but then again it is free entry and also free from chav's and 'herberts'.
Decent folk, decent pint and an old piano for your musical pleasure, providing you can play! Worth a pint.
|
Well worth a visit. A really splendid pub, most pleasantlandlord, fascinating interior, great heritage, formally the George and Dragon from about 1824, rebuilt in 1841 to enable the enlargement of the market. Live music frequently, fantastic local groups play here. Pity about the beer - only Robinsons real ale on offer - you either love it or hate it [bad hang-over fare in my book, sadly!]. A guest ale would be 'magic'.
