This is Randy Santel (Atlas) *Flexes muscles* With Atlas and Zeus promotions and proud owner of Foodchallenges.com. I recently went to the Fox and Goose in Greywell to attempt the Cheese Pie Challenge! I ate the pie in 15 minutes, I was given 20 minutes to complete the challenge. As a I result I get the free t-shirt and go onto the wall of fame. I also had a pint of ale.

This is certainly one of the best pubs in Hampshire, 'said by one who has visited more than a few'. The beer was in outstanding condition, we had the Alton & the Good Old Boy, two other real ales were also on offer. The food was excellent, my roast beef was under a tenner & the roast potatoes were some of the best I have ever tasted. From the moment you step through the door you get a warm welcome. Lovely old pub, open fires & a great atmosphere, it is certainly my type of place.
Rating. It's got to be at least a 9

Very well kept beer here at this unprepossessing country pub, I had a few pints of Brains Reverend James which was very well kept and a joy to behold! Superb food, good menu, friendly staff, piping hot food and big portions, but good value. Popular with locals and visitors alike - well established campground to the rear, well worth a visit for both beer and food, superb!

Where have all the review(er)s on this site gone?? This pub is still very welcoming, were with a party of 11 - after a beautiful walk along the canal and over the Downs. I had the Fox and Goose Ale - not sure which brewery (Ringwood?) 3.6% but very acceptable. Doom Bar and Courage Directors also on tap. Food excellent and reasonably priced - great way to finish the walk.

Called in here part way round an eight mile walk on a warm day.
Only two cask ales available :- Courage Best and Doom Bar. Pretty unimaginative selection. Surely could do better.
Food was uninspiring too. Battered fish was very hot but not fish shaped and the meat was a peculiar gray colour which indicates out of the packet and cooked from frozen. Chips were very hard as if they had come from the bottom of the deep fat frier. My friend had a curry which had hot rice but only warm chicken.
The pub itself was fine, guy behind the bar was pleasant enough and the place had a spacious garden. What a shame that the beer and food let it down.

Paid this pub a visit for the first time today. Myself and my fiancee were greeted by the landlord as we entered the pub and made to feel very welcome. We both ordered the Sunday roast beef and were extremely impressed with the speed of service and the quality of the food. Deserts were delicious too!
Would definitely come back here again!

This pub is a traditional country pub, with meals made from locally sourced game, such as rabbit, venison, pheasant and pigeon, and also the more common traditional pub food, all for a reasonable price, and there are NO stingy portions here, and all very tasty. The beer is also very reasonable and is mostly from the Ringwood brewery. It is located in the pretty village of Greywell, famous for its King Johns Castle and scenic canal, so us walkers found this pub very convenient. Loved my time there.

Simo07--it takes one to recognise one. This is a small country pub unchanged for the 40 something years I have lived in the area. It has the atmosphere of a country pub, the good beers associated with a country pub and the food is country pub style;e--very reasonably priced too. Try a plate of rabbit or steak and ale pie with loads of vegetables for 6.00 on a Thursday night. I wish there were more pubs in the area like it!

Small pub but the garden is big. Food mediocre and the locals are look like hillbillies.

A very pleasant old-fashioned country pub with Ringwood's Best and 49-er, log fire and friendly landlord. We dropped in for lunch after a walk and the food was perfect for a refuelling stop -- I wouldn't say it was haute cuisine but there's a time for unpretentious pub grub and this was it.
For this part of the world the prices are very reasonable. It's a bit surprising really to find a genuine pub with Fords and Skodas in the car park rather than Jags and Mercs in a picture postcard village within commuting distance of the Great Wen. Long may it last!

Charming country pub set in idyllic surroundings. Went for Sunday lunch with other half and the kids and received a very warm welcome from the landlord. Kids were provided with colouring books and crayons to keep them occupied.
Sat by the open fire sipping drinks whilst waiting for our Roast Dinner's which did not take long to arrive after ordering. Food was plentiful and very tasty and I could highly recommend a visit. Finished the afternoon off with a walk (guided information provided) around the village, River Whitewater and Greywell Moors.

Good friendly local which has stayed refresingly inchanged over the years. Do not mind pets and muddy boots. Food is wholesome without being exceptional. Ale always good. Lovely spot - well worth a visit especially after a walk.

Eaten here a few times both when owned by Sheila and now by new man. Food quality and prices always fine for me. Food is quicker now. Can't remember which ales on sale on my last visit but wife was driving so maybe I sampled one too many. New man not exactly a personality but pleasant enough.

Awful today - beautiful June Saturday and the place was empty - the landlord was gumpy and unhelpful and stood bawling for one of his staff. Food was bland and overpriced. Utter waste of money and a thoroughly hideous experience. Get the impression most people only go once!! Save yourself even that!!

New licensee that has only made it better. Top spot and still good food. Staff are smiling now (and looks like the customers are to)

The only thing missing from 852's review is that the pub does serve terrific food as well! Staff could smile a bit more and it would be a ten out of ten. Go for a walk down the Basingstoke canal (lane just across from the pub) that gives you a thirst/appetite!

Great country pub, good beer, large garden. Interesting locals, lovely place to spend a summers day or a winters evening
