Tavern, Mordenback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
In response to BeerGutt's comments below, the St Helier Pub Group is working hard to retain this as a pub and for 2 years has fought off the developer.
However, we are not fighting to retain the pub that was there, but to open a new, refurbished pub on the site. People in Morden want a pub there, but not the pub it was in the years before it closed. People want a family pub, somewhere that they can take children or sit outside in summer without having to trek all the way to Wimbledon.
It is in desperate need of refurbishment, which it will get, and its huge garden, function rooms, outbuildings and car park give it plenty of potential to fill a gap that is missing.
The business plan will offer a return to those who choose to invest. It is modest, but should out perform bank interest, and moreover give investors a stake in a community asset.

CLOSED!!! Apparently there is a big campain from CAMRA to save this pub because the building is "of historical interest". Having been to this pub once (and once was enough) I can say from experince that this building is monsterously ugly from the outside with the interior and clientel even more ugly. Now maybe with a lot of money you could gut the place and do it up but who is going to invest in this place when it will not offer any sort of return on investment (there was about 10 people in the whole place when I was in there). Now I am all for saving pubs as too many are being turned into flats/tesco expresses however I think people should just admit defeat on this one! ! !

Do pubs get any worse than this? The beer is poor and over-priced. The furnishings are so old a tatty that they are probably as old as the building itself. The carpet is faded and filthy looking. There is a sign advertising food, but who in their right minds would trust anything eaten there?
This pub has great potential, being spacious with a huge garden, both front and rear, all of which are ignored and wasted. It may suit the rough clients who frequent it, but no one else should go there unless they are desperate to watch the footy and and don't have Sky.

Terrible pub, horrible cheap tacky old and smelly furnishing. Huge TV screens, crap beer, a place for huge bellies and darts and pool.
