Midweek lunchtime isn't usually the best time to see what a place is like. I had been here years ago (before the re-build) and the location by the river, in the middle of the Fens, is both eerie and disconcerting. It IS miles away from anything. This is a good, solid pub, one which relies on its isolation: if you are here, you almost certainly decided to come here. This means that the pub has to be a "draw"; there is no passing trade. This one certainly is a draw. A fairly large number of OAPs were here to eat the (cheap) Monday Special. However, the staff are keen, the service is good and the drink is well-kept. Nice to have a relaxing pint by the side of the river. 7/10

A great place for Sunday lunch with a choice of three roasts and a nice range of steaks all cooked to perfection, with accompanying veg & chips really flavoursome. Other diners portions all looked generous. Good selection of ales but I didn't get further than the Brandon's 'Rusty Bucket' which was in fine fettle.
Staff were all smiling, friendly and helpful. The building was spacious but nonedescript, but the outside seating area and riverside views are good for families with a small stage for live music/DJ's etc, although the only entertainment yesterday was an angling contest on the opposite bank of the river.
As a London boy visiting friends in the area, I'll definately be back on my next trip

Excellent pheasant and partridge. Well kept ales. Fairly tedious decor.

Much improved - paid my first visit for a few years today and found the beer excellent (Nethergate & Buntingford). The food was adequate, the gardens were looking lovely on the first day of Spring.

I found this pub today by chance whilst avoiding a huge traffic jam on the A14...........I'm so glad that I did. Firstly I was greeted by a lovely warm smile from the bar staff, and shown the menu. I decided to have a steak and boy was it good. Without doubt one of the best steaks that I've ever had. Very generous portions cooked to perfection. Extensive sweet menu too. I tried the "Nelsons" beer and it was first class in perfect condition.Toilets clean and well looked after. Very nice riverside pub. Highly recommended.

Recommended as a great place to take kids, but we found it poor. Only 2 high chairs and a single baby change in the ladies toilets in the smokey snooker room its hardly child friendly!
The menu was one of the most limited I had seen in a long time. Roast beef, Roast Pork, Cheese PloughMans or Ham Ploughmans and that was it, Despite ringing in advance to check on vegitarian food and being told there would always be a selection. According the the web site (Which dosn't work properly)it had undergone "a major program of refurbishment with no expense spared" well the kids play area was still rusty, and "Well used" to say the least. If you want somewhere to sit by the river for a beer in might be alright but if you have kids especially small ones I would give it a miss.
