Visited the pub briefly at Easter. Had lunch and the food was outstanding. Best ever chips and excellent faggots (food variety). Beer very good, allin all top notch.

Great place to visit, capped a memorable day out.

Another decent pub in a nice Dorset village. I recommend a walk up to the Abbey nearby. The Royal Oak is a Hall & Woodhouse tied house and seemed to be popular with the senior community. There are plenty of separate drinking areas for privacy. Two real ales were available - Badger and Giant's Tipple. Stowford Press was the cider.

This used to be a great pub with quality food but is now under new ownership and the quality of the food has gone down somewhat.
My other gripe is that there were kids taking orders and serving food, don't get me wrong they were nice enough, but it's just something I really don't like. I'd much rather deal with adults, I just find it feels a bit cheap when pubs and restaurants take advantage of child labour.

Sadly has gone dramatically down hill. The last tennants have recently left and the pub is now in a state of confusion. Hopefully this will get sorted but at the moment I wouldn't recommend it

Just about the best pub you'll find. The food is excellent and great value, considering the quality. Beer is spot on too and all in a wonderful setting.

Super place, friendly and welcoming. The staff were great with Zoe(2) no sily stuffyness when she "helped" me get some drinks from the bar. Great food and good beer!!!

Superb beer and food. Very much a "dining" pub but nothing to stop you propping up the bar and just enjoying a couple of pints if that's what you're after. The barmaid gave me a bone for my dog, which was sweet.

This is a really good place to go for food, but more of a restaurant than a pub. Lovely old building, a wonderful village, great chef, excellent beers - but the joint doesn't swing, somehow.
|
A very quaint pub in a lovely setting. The food was good, although maybe a little overpriced. Definitely an eating pub rather than a locals watering hole. The service was a little slow at the bar but that may have been because it was busy.

I was there in winter and thought it was one of the best pubs ever. i suspect it gets a bit crowded in summer with tourists but lovely on a quiet afternoon. If only we had stayed close enough to walk home.

Best and most imaginitive menu in Dorset. Lunchtimes are charmingly informal and chef is happy to discuss the menu at length with dedicated foodies. Try the oxtail with monkfish cheeks...

Food served. Outside seating. Real Ale [Badger brewery].
Attractively 'English', this little inn near the church serves excellent chef prepared meals. The pleasant decor and friendly staff go a long way to help making to making the visit memorable.
