Stunning location. Lovely fires and pub furniture. Who can resist a Chesterfield.
Jaipur on draught - a first time seeing this. £4.70 - so not exactly cheap.

Such a shame for this old characterful pub to be taken over by a pub chain and how the slick corporate image shows. With an ethos determined by desk-bound office experts and accountants it has followed the all too familiar fashion of turning into a "gastro" pub. Most of its labyrinthine rooms are now set out with tables to feed pricey food to the car borne touroid masses. Thankfully they must have noticed a profit opportunity from the many hikers that walk in the area, enough to retain a drinking room at the back and a few tables outside. The cask beer choice however was poor, only Black Sheep and a pale ale being available on my visit but if you like the usual keg bitter and common lagers/ciders there were plenty of these.
Food was fairly decent quality as you would expect from their prices but why offer a choice of chips OR salad to go with sandwiches - why not
provide both - the ingredients won't cost that much more on a near £6 sandwich and might make a difference in perceiving the portions as miserly
or generous. Black sheep was £3.05 a pint, again, what you expect in these clone/country restaurant pubs and this is possibly on the cheaper side. I've past reviewed a long sad list of these types of pub. Old favourites catching the moreprofititis disease like ash trees succumbing to fungus.
Despite my dislike of these pubs in general, I did notice the cheerfulness and efficiency of the young staff here.

Called in saturday afternoon, place half full with others like ourselves seeking refuge from the snow. Seemed to be very food orientated and staffed exclusively by studenty types, one of whom caused great hilarity when asked as to the style of the Pirates Gold, "Er, well it's a beer." Phd in the bleeding obvious heading your way young man!
Suspect it to be a toursit trap when toursits are in season.
As to the beer, Blacksheep, Pirates' Gold and Yorkshire Terrier on offer.
All passed muster with our party with the later two being particularly well received.
Nice enough, I'd call in again if passing but won't be making a special trip.

We waited 2 hours for food.
We were given no initial warning that the kitchen was running slow. We were repeatedly lied to by the kitchen for the last hour that the food was "just being plated", to prevent us from walking out to find alternative food for a very hungry and tired toddler.
We grudgingly agreed to pay 2/3 of the bill, having no stomach to waste another minute disputing it. I cannot imagine that the chaotic management will be there long. The poor waitress was doing similar firefighting all over the pub which was not full.

Had a meal in this pub in 2007 and had a pleasant time. Went back today (June 2010) and had a terrible meal. The service was atrocious and very surly, and the food was very poor. While waiting for 15 minutes to pay we found out that we weren't the only customers to have had this experience. We understand that in 2009 this place went into new ownership and it looks to me as though it is quickly going downhill. Don't waste your time going here.

this is a fantastic country pub ideally positioned to take in all that the area has to offer.the real ale is of a good standard with monthly festivals to offer some unusual and hard to get ales.
i understand there is a new menu out soon to back up the great specials they normally have on which i have seen on their vintage inns website.
i cant wait until they get the fires lit for those cold nights after a long walk.

This pub is well situated near to many countryside walks.
It is very smart inside, just a little sterile typical of chain style gatsro/pubs.
The Everards Tiger was fine, although the Black Sheep was far from clear on my visit and best avoided.
Perhaps its finest feature is the view from the seating outside at the rear of the premises next to the large car park - The view looks out towards Higger Tor - very nice on a sunny afternoon.

Yet another restaurant that thinks its a pub and not a particularly good one at that. Not my cup of tea (or anything for that matter).

Drab and dull, a restaurant not a pub. Lousy beer poorly kept. I won't be goig back.

Accommodation is superb, as always with Innkeepers Lodges, and there are teriffic walks from the pub door, BUT the Stones and Tetleys were undrinakable, despite what should be high turnover

Nice pub set in the middle of the peak district, serves food, has a non smoking area, has an outside beer garden and also has accommodation, came here for a meal earlier this year and had a snowball fight with my girlfriend.
