One of Chorlton's more traditional boozers. Good choice of ales only let down by the use of sparklers which is, unfortunately, common for the area.

Despite frequent reminders about the bizarre (trifid flowers) paintwork, now painted like a Goth's bedroom- very dark grey, mock olde world décor that was apparently had crafted and looks like the toilet upstairs has leaked down the walls, they refuse to return The Beech to the great pub it was. The open fires have also been ripped out, a tv blares away in the back room and a ridiculous room divider means that you can't get anywhere near the front bar. Out side is in the process of a makeover while inside is drab and cramped. The beer is still good.

went in here thursday night 29/11/2012. Well worth the visit as they had a good selection of beers and nice atmosphere. The barmaid even gave me a cuddle!

For my money now Chorlton's best pub. They've extended their beer range - Timothy Taylor Landlord, Golden Best, Bass Bitter, Salamander and more guests. Great atmosphere, great people, great staff, dog friendly - it's a real proper local.

I'd encourage anybody who used to enjoy the Beech in the past to give it another go, the new landlord is really trying to bring the pub back to its former glories, the older more unsavoury characters have left, and they have a decent selection of real ales, TT landlord, TT golden best and Copper Dragon. Sat in the front room felt like the old days at the weekend.

Good luck to the new couple running this once great pub. They can't do any worse than the last jokers, and they seem to be trying hard to bring this pub back to its former glories. The TT landlord was on good form.

It seems like the new owners certainly know what they are doing. Rather than waste money on a pointless makeover they have got the most important thing right - the beer. The four cask ales that were on offer when I visited were truly fantastic. Hopefully it won't be too long before it returns to it's former glory. I will definitely be returning soon

Great news. This place is under new management and they seem to have got rid of the idiots.
What is more, they're getting the beer right. 4 cask ales on the evening I visited: Black Sheep Best, TT Landlord, TT Best and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin. All in top quality order, with the Black Sheep utterly outstanding.
A lovely little pub and much recommended...please frequent this place. It was quiet when I visited, which given its recent history is understandable I suppose, but if you're in the area, do try and pop in and support them.

The sad news is that the brewery has taken it back due to falling receipts and trouble. (December 09) Hopefully somebody decent will be able to take on this once great boozer.

Despite positive recent reviews The Beech is very much a pub on it's downers - a shadow of its former self. It still regularly runs out of beer (landlord & best), no guests and no gin - on my last visit - and this was not the only time A pub without beer indeed! Despite efforts at a much needed refurb - it's still sadly a poor and empty pub in every sense that needs a new landlord to get it back to it's former glories.

I guess I have been going to the Beech on Beech Road, Chorlton at least once a week for around two years and on on off for around 30 years. I have always found the company, the staff and the range and quality of beers to be excellent.
My favourite is Taylors Landlord, although their Best Bitter runs very close. I have also enjoyed a number of beers from the Dunham Massey Brewery.
The Beech is the last of it's kind certainly in Chorlton. Small friendly, comfortable with the accent on providing good beer.
Just before Christmas the Beech was completely redecorated with new floors and upholstery. It has been carried out with sensitivity and it looks great.
I would ask anybody who ever visited the Beech to go again and enjoy excellent beer in an exceptional pub.

I've been going to the Beech for the last year or so for the folk music & song sessions which are very good. The beer is always good, as is the welcome. I get the impression the 'new' management are keen to promote the pub (the Snug has been recently decorated) but it's fairly obvious they're being screwed by the Pub Company.
It's a real pub, not a pretentious plastic palace - which is a pleasant change these days. I just hope the locals give the place the support it deserves - I fear it could be a case of use it or lose it.

Called into watch football and was treated to some brain donor bottling what appeared to be his mate, in front of kids FFS!
Not been back, nor likely to. Was sound until that point though!
|
In 3 years it's gone from the best pub in chorlton, to one of the worst. Still OK early doors though.
|
Gone massively downhill since new owners have taken over. There is a regular motley crew of smokers outside - giving it an air of aggressiveness Regularly runs out of proper beer. Interior (ripped seats etc) sad and dilapidated Avoid at all costs
|
Huge telly showing pap pop barely distracted from a pretty nasty tasting pint. Gets a point for being full of lycra-clad cyclists though.
|
Pleasant multi-roomed boozer, welcome lacking but beer made up for it Good area for a walk.

If this pub was a good size it would be and ale cans dream. Footy is on almost all the time and you often get someone punching up with some pipes or a guitar, a real old irish or scotish feel its nice. And on the plus side unlike most pubs in chorlton the real ale is superb, althought they do have a tendancy to run out of spirits from time to time, never mind, If you need somewhere away from the grungy locals or your craving a good ale get down their, but be aware, standing is almost a cert.

I can honestly say that this has got to be in the top three WORST pubs in and aroud Chorlton. The place is way too cramped. It's boring in every sense. It smells like a chippy, and the pints are dreadful in both taste and price!! The place is very poor and i wouldn't recommend. The outside beergarden is better than inside, (apart from wasps in ya beer on a hot summers day).

A lovely olde fasioned pub that has not changed since the time itwas built! a classic pub atmosphere that takes you backyears and offers exellent ales and alchohiolic beverages.well run and worth a visit.
