This place has now opened up as Harry Cook Freehouse. Still a Mitchells and Butlers but now as part of their 'Castle' chain. Doesn't feel chainy though. Great selection of beers - last visit had Blanche de Bruxelles, Brooklyn Lager, Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn 1/2 all on offer next to standards such as Doom Bar etc etc. Food is good enough but nothing to write home about. Staff all very friendly and since the refurb the place has a very pleasant, modern but homey atmosphere.

Went for cheap bangers and mash. Both mine+mates were burnt!! He got money back, I didn't!!! Before I'd ordered pint and got half a pint with rest just head. No really. No really, actually HALF foam. Am looking at picture of it on mobile as I write. Did replace, but was served this, mind. Might be the training as SAME THING happened in Bournemouth O'neills too! (review is there)

Very nice Guiness (as expected) and not too bad a crowd in there as most only stop for a few on their way into town. BUT do not be caught out towards last orders, the bouncers are extremely rude and literally chase you out the door some 5 mins after time, even if you've only just bought your pint they make you leave it behind.

Not a bad pint of Guinness Red in here!

Visited this place again last weekend - good crowd, lovely ladies, and a good starting point - not sure about the fella in red leggings and ripped denim hotpants tho

FULL OF SMOKE..................................

I remember drinking in here when it was called JJ O'Neill's. It was a major part of the Montpellier Run.

Good atmosphere, especially during the Cheltenham races, however the big screen they have is out of focus and the sound is very poor. dunno what the food is like as they stopped serving due to being too busy! - Bizarre.

No decent beer, prices are quite high, always full on the weekend, with a good atmosphere

a bit grubby inside but cracking atmosphere if there is a live band playing or after the races when it's at it's noisy boisterous best. drinks are nothing special so beer lovers and wine guzzlers give it a miss!
