Nottinghan Forest Pub. Sorry Eamonn but I couldn't resist that. In all fairness anyone who has thick skin and is not afraid to have the piss taken out of them should drop in here for a slagging. This is a great place to watch a soccer match if Paddy Cox lets you in. (Just slip him a fiver and kiss him on the cheek). He llikes that sort of thing. Get Paul Hick behind the bar to tell the story of the Ballinasloe Soccer Club trip to London in 1986. Priceless. If you support Leicester City and have a shirt to prove it, call in. You'll probably get your photo taken as proof that such fans still exist, Good pub. Full of headers.

I see the pub got a 2/5 in Pubspy (in the Sunday World) last week, much higher than I would have given it. A complete dive and no mistake.

Well Well! I was online going to make a comment about a pub in my home town of athlone when I seen the reply here to my last message.. I would love to be able to say I worked behind that bar but Im not that lucky.. Im also getting the feeling that with the pubs that you list below that you are either part of the "high flying" un-wanted group of people or you havent got a clue of a bit of craic when you see it(okay out of them I havent been in one).. Im going to leave this as my last message here as I dont want to lower myslef to this level again.. Im so sorry to all of the gang in the usual for the sad comments passed between us here I will tell you all again who I am over a pint... Thanks again one of the best & yes I would love to be behind that bar! Who wouldnt.. Anyone is welcome to put a word in..

I wouldn't pay any heed to the post immediately below this as the author clearly works there. I know The Usual & it's a complete dive. 3rd worst pub in the town (after Joe's & The Cellar).

Great Pub! Have always had a great time day or night! DJ & Live bands at the weekend Poker comps & Games club during the week! I dont know where you went son of oak maybe you would suit the pub down the road a bit better you could sit by yourself in the corner... Never had any trouble when Ive been in & the staff have always been dead on! Anytime I want to watch a soccer game its my first stop.. Im not saying Ballinasloe is great but The usual has always looked after me & anyone I know... If you want to have a bit of craic & chill out you will in The Usual.. Thanks to all the gang in the Usual! You have the best Guinness in Ballinasloe..

What a hole. What I can't understand is why the gimps that go in there day after day love the place so much. Apart from the occasional fine barmaid from time to time, there really is no reason to go in. The type of people that adore that place are the type of people that look down on you for not spending the majority of your wages (or dole) on 'yokes' and cider and fall around there for the night brown-nosing the other regulars. Knock it down, do us all a favour.

Right, this is not a good pub. Unless you're already hammered that is, meeting someone at the end of the night. You know, when you're so locked that you don't care where you get a pint, as long as it's tasty (avoid the Smithwicks here, jaysus...). In the cold light of day it's a bare place, it's got that minimalist, cold feeling that's prevalent in a lot of spots these days, usually to attract the trendy crowd. People called Maurice or Fintan. Except that's not the crowd that frequents this joint. no it's a mixed bunch, everyone from Gardai to dealers, side by side, blind to each others' presences when there's a cider in front of them (Yep, it's a Bumers 'n' Bud joint). Sham-tastic, you might say. Not that I've any reason to be snobby in that department, it's just not my scene (Boss). Musicwise, it's yer typical jukebox, plenty of that dance crap, although a trawl can produce some gems in the rock or Irish dept. - you know, people actually playing instruments (remember the days?). On occasion there's live bands (keep an eye out for Live & Dangerous, great Thin Lizzy tribute band) or local (i.e. crap) DJs (avoid). Drinkwise, it's a typical B'sloe pub, hit & miss. The Swithwicks I've mentioned, Guinness is grand, lager okay & the spirits don't seem to be too diluted. But it's the general feel of the place I don't like, too... "functional" I suppose is the word. You'd go there to drink or meet someone, not for the craic. Racing on the TV during the day (I. HATE. THAT.), soccer in the evening (ZZZ...) & the compulsory pissed-as-a-fart-oul'-lad contingent in permanent residence. Not the last resort as a venue in the town, but near enough to make shag all difference.
