After 12 miles on the Thames Path from Oxford, yesterday, it was a relief to find we had a good hour before the 18.16 train back to London - and that the Carpenters was open and welcoming. There was enough time to try the Greene King IPA, Morlands Original, and Abbot - all in very good condition. Mark Haslett couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, though it was a shame to see the pub so little used on a beautiful sunny and hot afternoon in the garden.

Good luck with the new pub, Haz.(New Landlord).. (It allways used to be a good-un!)

Called into this pub for an evening meal with my partner and two children. Were unable to have a meal due to the sign on the bar saying "cash only". Therefore left the premises without purchasing a drink. How many people carry cash on them when going out for a meal?

Having visited this pub which has a lovely open fire and comfy atmosphere, we were made very welcome. The staff were attentive and friendly. To start with we had Black pudding salad starter which was excellent. For mains Steak Rossini which was cooked too perfection. I thoroughly enjoyed it all and will definately be going back. 10 out of 10.

Visited the Carpenters Arms on Wednesday 12th Dec 07, on first walking in, the pub was inviting and warm on a chilly night. We had booked so was told where our table was and sat down, looking at the menu we was a bit disappointed with the selection, I had heard great praise for the pub, we decided on the battered mushrooms & avacardo parwn salad for starters, the prawn salad was ok bit over powered by the thousand island dressing, the battered mushrooms were like bullets and trying to cut them or even spear them was difficult without them shooting across the table. We then order fillet of sirloin steak one in peppered sauce, both were to be medium rare, they arrived again disappointing, the steaks were medium to well done and the one with the peppered sauce was learning to swim as there was so much sauce on the plate!! the vegetables were also tasteless!!! overall appearance on the pub rates a 10, food rates a 2!!! we wont be going back again!!
