This is the 2nd time we have called at the revamped mount inn for a drink and hopefully a snack whilst walking in the cotswolds. The first time we visited in the summer it was packed, with lines of people waiting for drinks and to order food. As 3pm closed in the owner announced to the food line that from that point only fish and chips could be ordered. Overall not a good first impression, especially with the owner verging on the rude to customers.
So we gave it a second try during the Christmas break, arriving a little early at 11:50am.
The pub was supposed to open at 12, but the staff were morei interested in cleaning the windows. At 12:05 the pub was still not open and another couple left. At 12:10 the bar man who was cleaning windows indicated to go and use the other door as they were now open ( even though a group of us stood at the door indicated as 'BAR' ). As I got to the bar, with another couple of people, the owner continued to play with a display behind the counter, with no acknowledgement to her clients. Eventually I got served. We did not eat as they now do not do any tasty little pub type snacks rather gastro food, and overpriced bageuttes.

Incredible views by far and away the best thing about this pub. Beers by Donnington are not my favourite although in good condition. Only been in during quiet times, never been a problem getting served and staff friendly enough. Interior a bit hodge-podge, but ideally you'll be sitting outside on a nice day.

Cracking location and view (I live locally so I know the pretty spots), initial impressions are good and staff are attentive.
Good sensible English pub menu (no Thai green curried squid etc).
Chef also knows how to serve a blue steak and the meat was well matured and had a good flavour. Problems were with the sides. No mention is made on the menu or board if they are included or not. When we checked with the waiter we were told all dishes come with some sort of potatoes and veggies � so it was a massive surprise when my wife�s Beef & Mush pie arrived with nothing. When we queried this we were told that what the waiter thought we had ordered. A bit lame � as my wife pointed out to the bar manageress �Would you eat beef pastry and gravy with no mash at home?� Some mash arrived in short order. Veg was a bit sad, barely steamed std fare with no garnish or seasoning.
Major issue is with the drinks order. A weak shandy was priced as a full pint of beer and my wife�s half a lemonade was charged as a pint. This was obviously a mistake but this is the second pub of this type in this area to make this mistake in a week�
This aside, the food was priced fairly. Worth a punt but be careful.

Called in on 22/02/08 with a walking group and not made very welcome, moved on in the end as did not like attitude of staff, seems to be anti walkers so best avoided.

Not a good experience. Beautiful day. Indian Summer. Sat on the terrace. Idyllic view. Then it all went down hill! Just couldn't get served. The landlord was clearing the tables and said "here's a place ...". So we went to the bar and waited behind 2 others. And waited and waited. No one there. The landlord peeped in, collected his sandwich and sat at one of his cleared tables and drank his pint and ate his food. And we waited - and read the notice "bar staff wanted". The chef wandered through, the bar maid dealt with one customer then faffed about. Then the next. Then - whilst the landlord pushed away his empty plate and yawned - I was eventually served. Food looked OK but was very expensive. Beer was cloudy. And its Donningtons - bland taste and rather boring. This place needs a kick up the proverbial!

Most Donningtons pubs are in attractive locations, but The Mount must be the daddy of them. On the hill at the very top of Stanton, with views of this chocolate-box Cotswold village and the Severn Vale beyond. A bit old-fashioned inside (a typical Donny�s interior). Good-looking menu with a good number of vegetarian options; a framed newspaper article warning of the dangers of aspartame bodes well for good ingredients. Both Donnington beers, though not the best pint of BB or SBA when we called. Welcomes walkers but use the supplied boot rack in the rear lobby.

Haven't been in in years but used to be taken there for lunch when I was a kid (always a highlight of a holiday!). In those days the landlord was a matchbox collector and had them all glued to the ceiling. Not round that way much now but will definitely drop by if I'm passing as it doesn't look like the important things have changed.

A steady stream of visitors in for a pint or ramblers stopping to eat. Donnington Ales on offer. Cricket memorablia everywhere. Great place to sit outside and watch time pass you by. Usually a fire to warm you up as well.
Worth a stop if you are in the area.

The Mount Inn, Stanton, boasts beautiful views of this quaint English village. The pub offers cosy a atmosphere, great food and local ales on tap.

This has to be one of the best-located pubs in North Gloucestershire.Follow the signs to Stanton off the Winchcombe to Stratford road (B4632?)and head to the top end of the village past a timewarp series of Cotswold stone cottages. Terrific views of the Malverns in the distance. being one of the 15 Donnington Brewery houses in the area,it is a gem.
