Copa, Cheltenhamback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
good for an evening drink - although a bit short on the ale front (green king IPA......!!). Had to resort to a strongbow. Free of chavs when we were in there, and music not too deafening. Girlfriend enjoyed her vino, would go back!

Was advised against this place for a works do, but my boss organised it. Starter-V small prawn salad (prawn is singular I suppose) Main-Duck so badly cooked I needed a steak knife to cut it (other person gave up!) I could have choked on it! Dessert-Baileys. Not served, somneone had to go and get it (they may have just paid for one) Before that staff helpfully collected my half-full unfinished glass. Other times Ive been have been better, though expensive

Very poor, I do not recommend it. The food is expensive and leaves a lot to be desired, service is slow and bar staff are disorganised. Make sure you read the menu carefully and watch for any current offers, the bar staff will fail to draw your attention to them and will refuse to exchange you order afterwards. Find somewhere else to go if you value service and good food (I did not try the burger!)

The experience depends on when you visit, generally quiet during the weekday evenings but manic (and full of chavs) on friday/saturday nights. The music is awful and deafeningly loud which is probably why most people try to sit outside.
One major fault is every time I go in I always ask for the Kriek they have on tap, but the last 5 or 6 times I've been they always say they're out - despite STILL advertising it. Very irritating.

A great place during the summer, with outside seating on the street, where you can people watch to your hearts content! The wine on offer is always excellent and at reasonable prices (from 4 for a large glass). Also serve food, though never eaten there. The inside is a little shabby, although not dirty or untidy, just perhaps a little outdated. The bar area is nice, though, and service is always friendly. A great place to have a coffee during the day, and a nice place to have a catch up with friends as there is NO MUSIC... bliss!

Went there last night, they had mulled wine on tap, now thats the spirit! Really nice relaxed atmosphere with great service from behind the bar, it's so good to get a smile fromt he person who serves you! It was only spoiled slighty by the quite loud 10 year old dance soundtrack, Thursday nights is late night shopping in Cheltenham, so perhaps some lounge music would have made a little better mood, after walking round the shops for 2 hours I certainly didn't feel like drinking to get pissed and dancing. But I say it only slightly spoiled the ambience so no need to grumble really.
The food was ok, is it gastro? Not sure. It seems to be immitating so many bars up and down the country, burgers, fish and chips, chill, something for the veggie, Brake Bros chips etc. Personally I blame the food culture not the chefs (having been one for 5 years) with TV chefs telling everyone to keep it simple, the problem is everyone does exactly the same menu. Perhaps thats a good thing as you know what to expect, I must say the lightly spiced Copa burger was nice to eat perfect balance of sealed meat on the outside compared to medium rare on the inside, it was like a steak in a bun. I would say that the three fistfulls of rather sweaty cheese that topped the burger was a bit much, it's quite a strong cheese, and I find that they do taste strange when melted, plus I hate rocket/frisee/lollo rosso and the fact that the cheese had been melted into this hideous lettuice only made it harder to remove. I must reiterate I know what it's like to work in a very busy kitchen but perhaps the chef may consider this final note - "the Copa Burger was excellent, how about buying a square block of mature English cheddar and not melting it over the burger, just placing it a top of the burger, you might save on ingredients and time"
Thats a lot to say about a Burger I know, but seriously, Copa is an excellent place to visit.

I really like this place for both an afternoon lunch, and for drinks in the evening. Great in the summer to sit outside, but cosy inside in the winter. Bar staff were very friendly and efficient, but meal times can be quite long so prepare yourself.

It is now called Copa. Good value Leffe and free wireless internet.

One of the better pubs in Cheltenham. Worth a visit!
|
Pub was refurbished in 2005 and is now trading under the name "Copa" allegedly specialising in contiental beers although the range is pretty main stream. Good for lunch when shopping, although on a Saturday tables can be hard to find. If you can manage to get an outside table in the Summer it is a great place to watch the world go by.

My friend used to work here. I always found it boring and over-rated. Okay if part of a pub crawl, but otherwise not worth going there.

What is with the heat in this place! In the summer its like being in an Egyptian carpet shop with no air conditioning. You'll feel sorry for the bar staff. Although, the beer is good and sitting outside in the summer is a cheltenham "thing to do".

perfect for a post-shopping lunch and cappuccino but pretty dull after dark and plays weird music too loud.
