Bar staff refused to taste or change a beer I considered 'off'. I will not return. Pub miss-managed in my opinion.

new initiative - flat vinegar tasting overpriced beer from the barrel. better off sticking with John Smith's !!!
|
Nice enough pub with beer straight from the barrel when we were there. Busy with a bank holiday crowd in but not ridiculously so.
|
6X a bit flat, but otherwise in reasonable condition. Moved on.

We took refuse in here one evening as it had just started raining. Old fashioned pub with bare floorboards. A darts match was in progress but played in an unobtrusive way. Two real ales both served straight from the cask.
When we were about to leave it was chucking it down outside. The landlady kindly telephoned for a taxi to take us back to our digs.

27/10/12- Started off as a decent night, a lovely traditional, unspoiled pub with a good group playing mostly rock music. One of the younger locals had too much to drink and decided he wanted to have a fight with me because I spoke to his girlfriend. I am 50, he and she about 25. Instead of ejecting the lad I was told to leave! I will not return. Beers good, landlord friendly but miss-managed in my opinion. There are better in Weymouth

average pub, average drinks, staff not the happiest , locals blocking access to bar with no interest in allowing people chance to order a drink..advertised football matches on blackboard but didnt actually show them as showing rugby (worth the nice writing they'd made of effort of doing on the board!)so it was a case of 1 pint of flat beer and out down road..
|
only one ale available on our visit. served very warm as was the soft drink.
|
Love this pub, yes, it did have a reputation for being a bit rough, but it really isnt! I've been going there for over 10 years and only ever seen one fight! It's got loads of character and history, ideal if you don't like all the modern, souless places springing up everywhere. Good range of drinks, not too much local stuff, but it's a cosy, local pub!
|
Someone was murdered here apparently........about 2-300 years ago.
Popped in for a quick pint whilst waiting for the bus, not bad but didn't see any ale on so if you're after ale I recomend a quick phone call to check.

After running the gauntlet of drunken, old, bald buffoons having a smoke by the door, i was disappointed to find that the internet jukebox had been replaced with a normal one. Totally ruined the place for me.
|
Always a stop off for the RFA mob, and always a good time had in there.
|
Went in the Black Dog for the first time in years. The staff are friendly, and prompt. The food was very good, plentyful, well presented and hot. The added bonus was two meals for 7.50 I will be going back again to this changed pub. Well done to all involved in the running of this pub, you are onto a winner.

Full of chavs and kids when i visited. Dirty glasses and full ashtrays everywhere. despite it's excellent location and potential won't be visiting again for a while.

A lovely looking pub, with Friendly, helpful staff. This pub seems to generate crowds of all ages, which is why it gets very busy, especially on weekends. Great live music :-).
|
One of the "proper" pubs in Weymouth. There is real ale available usually including an offering from the local Quay brewery. Service is prompt and friendly and beer prices are below the average. Can be noisy at weekends when bands are playing (but those bands can be good!)Recorded music tends to be "Indie". Somewhat different (and welcome) mix from the usual stag and hen circuit on the weekend. Give it a go. And it's got history!

Had a night (day) out in Weymouth not too long ago and started in here about 2 on a Wed afternoon, it was packed and people were falling over drunk. This was a weekday afternoon, what was going on? Drinks were stupid cheap so perhaps I can understand and maybe one of the reasons I stayed so long.
Not sure I agreed with the barman who told some guy to 'put his knife away' rather than slinging him out though.........?
