Absolutely no ales to speak of, unless you count bottled, refrigerated Greene King. Didn't stay.

This pub was quite good about eight years ago, now it is an object lesson in how not to run a pub. If you are in Weymouth the Globe, Boot, Duke of Cornwall are all decent free houses serving great beer. If you want a 'spoons the Swan is very good. The Duke of Cornwall and the Old Rooms Inn show sports on Sky.There is enough choice without having to resort to a dive like this.

0600 Sunday 14th May 2011 - Most of Weymouth Police dealing with the usual crowd of drunken louts that seem to be the only customers these days!

Why anyone would actually volunteer to drink in this dump is beyond me!

This is a sea-front terraced pub, with red and white exterior, with a small patio out the front

The interior has a sports bar advertised upstairs - i didnt go. The lower floor was open plan and on a few different levels, one of which had a pool table. The decor was a bit scruffy, being white and wood panel. There were a number of pictures and memorabilia dotted about. There was Sky TV and and the music, whilst chart stuff, was at a decent level. The service was fine, but beer was in plastic glasses. Small clientele, youngish.

Beer; usual tap kind of stuff, with London Pride (not to my taste) and Dorset Brewing Co's Jurassic, which was decent enough.

With one beer that i would drink, it really is a younger persons place, so no, i wouldnt go back.

Friendly barmaid, had a lager ? should have asked for a tetanus shot

Totally buggered, absolutely empty over bank holiday weekend, no real ale, no music, no reason to go back there and from the state of the place no reason to stay there again.
quizman - 6 May 2009 00:12
Police hate the place and are trying to revoke its 24 hour licence because of the trouble in and around the place.

I love this place, it has some fantastic live bands like Beaver and The Crack, and if thats too loud for you then there is a bar upstairs playing some classic music from 1970 to 1990. There's Karaoke on which is always good for any pub entertainment, but the hosts are hidden in what i call a garden shed. It is true that upstars can be full of ermmmmmm.....mature people, but end of the day we are all getting old and the day will come when we go into a club and some snotty teenage kid will tell you to "piss off Grandad/Granny....init past your bedtime???" This place does also have a reputation for fighting but i must say the hundreds of times i've been in it's been a good atmoshere and if anything does kick off Stevie and his crew are on the case fast. As for real ale's well i couldn't give a toss but i would like them to maybe have a total referb as the place is looking a bit dated....take a leaf out of Dusk's book's boys, it could bring you better clientel.

This pub creates a conundrum

Yes, they serve ale. 6X is not going to set my world on fire, nor is London Pride (as a now Londoner I'm yet to hear anyone proudly proclaim their love for the stuff). But, and happily for me, they do serve ale and some lager choices.

Bad points? Well it's a pub-club which means it's already scoring low. Always rammed with people getting smashed which while not being aproblem, is when there is always aggro in here. The place used to (not sure now) stay open until 5am - way to go clever folk of the Dorothy and while this is good for getting a beer at a stupid time, actually managed to put me off by going in.

Before anyone starts, Dusk (the one along the road from it) is pretty awful, and if I had to choose the Tickled Hippy/Lazy Lizard (whatever it';s called these days) would be my choice. But the Dorothy could be so much better if it

a) Didn't run kareoke. Seriously, if a pub runs kareoke, it's lost my custom without me walking in the door for life

b) Didn't have such an arcane door policy. I went for a ciggie outside (after getting permission) and was told I couldn't come back in again byt he same bouncer who'd let me out!!!! Reason: "We're too busy". Numptie

On the other hand, why bother fixing what seems to work for the vast majority of customers - shame it won't be me then...

Three real ales on when I was in recently which if memory serves were Wadworths 6X, Abbot Ale and the ubiquitous London Pride. The Pride and the 6X were kept well enough and my friends enjoyed their lunch.

However, it's obvious that this isn't really a daytime pub at it was largely deserted and consequently lacked atmosphere.

A bit disquieting was the note on the wall which read violence and abusiveness towards the staff will not be tolerated. Quite right of course but it's worrying that they even have to put a notice like this up.

Always enjoyed this pub, found the food to be good. The beer ok and the staff pleasant. Always busy at the weekends, well worth a visit

Trickywooster, if you're a shift manager I would suggest you start by learning what a "real ale" is. Addlestones as you point out is a cider - which is not an ale, real or otherwise. I suspect the Tetley is "smoothflow", which is not a real ale - it is a sub-standard bitter. That leaves four real ales according to you. When I last took a look in, you had ONE real ale on. On my previous visit, you had NONE. Looks like you'll need to find another main selling point.

Saturday Nights: Always loved this pub as it is frequented by a more mature clientelle.Upstairs has a cool dance floor and a more intimate setting with lots of thumping classic disco tunes. Downstairs is a bit more crowded ensuring it as one of the must go places for a late, late drink. The only negative is the Karaoke operator on a sturday evening who doesn't seem to be able to handle a crowd. The staff are always busy and its a bit of a fight to get to the bar but the entertainment value alone makes it worthwile. Take your granny, she won't feel out of place.

Realalemonster.

I work at the Dorothy Inn as a shift manager. I'm alarmed that you are stating we do not have any real ales! I can personally guarantee we always try and have 6 ales on at a time and at the moment these are:
Abbott Ale, Bass, 6X, London Pride, Tetleys & Addlestones.
Admittedly one is a rough cider.

I've been working there for around 4 years and can never remember a time that we did not have any ales available as it is one of our main selling points for the pub.

Unfortunately, Dorothys' days as a real ale pub are long gone! There was a decent selection of beers here a few years ago - not anymore though, in fact not one single real ale on my last visit there. Shame.

Just stayed here for a couple of days on strength of old adverts in Camra mags. Hmmmm could have done better. Not much of a beer selection but spose thats because its winter. Nothing wrong with quality though and staff pleasant. Breakfasts were fine but you gotta do something about the beds man like sleeping on large stones ! Music was OK as well.

What on earth has happened to this pub? Three years ago it used to serve six real ales which were well-kept and interesting, and the atmosphere was lively and friendly. When I went in there again a couple of months ago there were no real ales, a beer being flogged off cheap because it was stale, only four other people in there on a mid-Saturday evening who were all semi-conscious with drink. Don't even go near this place!

Went there last year when we watched Altrincham beat Weymouth 2-0. It was quality. I go lobbed out of here for falling asleep. I had been on the beer since 6.30am, so give me some credit.

its brilliant

Having been to quite a few other bars, this was the worst, it was out of date and full of the "older" woman. Didnt get a chance to go on the Kareoke, too many people.
