Pub closed.
Slightly unusual to see a what was once a St. Austell brewery pub closed.
They normally are quite well run and do ok so not sure what has happened here.
|
Well the question has been answered.
The local family who opened the pub with such fanfare.....and then shut it again 3 months later....have applied for planning permission to turn the upper floors into flats and the bar area 'retail units'.
Perhaps this was the intention all along, anyway, it seems unlikely ever to be a licensed premises again.

St Austell brewery did indeed sell the pub.
The pub was bought from the brewery by a local family who wished to keep it as a pub, running it as a free house. New landlords were appointed and the pub re-opened with lots of publicity about beer, cider, pub events including live music and a new food menu.....hurrah.
However 3 months later the pub is closed once more with no indication as to whether it is closed for good or is a temporary measure......boo.

This St Austell brewery pub is now closed and has a For Sale sign up.

Has been done out since my last visit about a year ago. The pool table has been moved from the back to the side room - far more sensible - and an eating area created at the rear. Not much furniture in the main bar area - I do hate "comfy" sofas in pubs. Has a DJ area so I assume that discos/music is a regular feature.
St Austell Tinners, Tribute and proper Job available. The Tinners was excellent and good value at 2.45 (unlike the 2.80 down the road in The Dolphin), The lady behind the bar was friendly and efficient.
I'd certainly visit again.

a pub to be avoided. I waited for over half and hour and when I asked about my food the staff were not interested I asked for, and received all my money back without comment visit another pub and avoid this one is my advice

Went in the other week and the place is a lot nicer than previously - decent pint and friendly staff. Food however, was pretty awful.

best pub in town during the week and especially at the weekends

Bit quiet when I went (although it was a Tuesday). Sir Humphrey was the discoverer of laughing gas which makes my job easier as it was the first general anaesthetic. As well as the Miners Safety Lamp
