The Barley Mow has changed management recently (2016) and is much better than the old reviews below. Five ales on, all from Hampshire or Sussex breweries. The ones I tried were in good condition. Friendly service in a pretty location in a quiet village in the South Downs. The menu was also good. Decent portions and interesting home-cooked food without being too poncy. Well worth a visit for hikers, cyclists or anyone fancying a trip out to the countryside.

I visited this pub recently and was shocked to be charged 3.70 for a pint of Otter Amber Ale. No wonder so many pubs are closing with rip off prices like this, I certainly won't be returning. Also there was a very unpleasant smell in the garden.

Visited this pub as we were taking our dao for a walk nearby so decided to have lunch before we went. We chose this pub as we could sit in the beer garden with our dog. the food arrived very quickly but in terms of quality was poor. the gammon was more fat than meat, very poor for 11.95. next time we will try the hare and hounds up the road, if that's no good the we will have to revert to our favourite, The Royal Oak at Hooksway.

Ps. after complaining to the manager he was very apolagetic and offer a 50% discount for our group to use, so we will let know when we get some food how it is thanks Peter

A group of us visited this pub one evening after a walk. The beer and wine were fine, but we were very disappointed with the food, service and manager's attitude. It was curry night and various curries were served buffet style. Unfortunately those of us who had a curry found it to be barely warm. On complaining to the young waiter (who didn't appear to be very well trained), he dithered and seemed unsure how to handle the problem. When we asked for the manager he came over only to say that the curry had been served all evening without anyone complaining that it wasn't hot (temperature). When we protested that it was definitely not hot he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. Nothing was offered in the way of recompense for our disappointment. The meals cooked to order were OK however but it is not somewhere I would visit again.

Good jazz on the third Tuesday of the month. Food seemed to be not overpriced, drinks definately not so.

Had many family meals here and never been disappointed and the beers great too!

Wicked selection of at least 4 ales on handpump inc Ringwood Fortyniner, Old Thumper, and Harvey's Best. Avoid last Sunday lunchtime b4 Christmas unless you like scantily clad Mother Christmas's and blokes with white beards !

Catered for a group of 18 motorcyclists on a cold March day admirably. Staff friendly and efficient. Good choice of food served promptly. Can't comment on the beer as, unfortunately, we were all driving !

Excellent food, friendly staff! Perfect stop-off on a walk over Kingley Vale. Try the skittle alley too.
