please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Here for my annual visit to York University, dropped into the Heslington pubs of course. This time, for the first time ever, I preferred the Deramore; it has really come up. Very good beer range, and the menus are good with a well thought-out variety of home-prepared food, not at all your average pub fodder. Well done.

Since its refurbishment, the pub has far more character and a good, busy atmosphere. Good selection of ales and a scrumpy cider, Weston's Old Rosie. Very good.

The Deramore Arms has recently been taken over by brand new owners Edward Mason and Peter Atkinson, and fronted by new General Manager Leesa Smith .
Part of a collection of venues to include 2 London based pubs, The CAMRA award-winning Duke Of Wellington in Hackney and real ale and craft beer bar Mason & Taylor. The pub has recently undergone a full refurbishment and has a newly built large outdoor paved beer garden to the rear, and the interior has undergone a full redecoration.
We are having a relaunch party on Thursday 8th March.
The pub will be focussing on real ales, with 5 hand pumps in action after the refurb, with the plan to have all 8 hand pumps in operation by the summer if not sooner !!!! featuring local Yorkshire microbreweries, including a regular weekly guest Ale, with Upcoming guest breweries from the region include Magic Rock from Huddersfield, Kirkstall and Ridgeside from Leeds.
Roosters over in Knaresborough and of course Black sheep York and Leeds Brewery... With many many more to come !

Nice pub with some good food - I'd only heard good things from my friends, so went there for the first time recently. Unfortunately the landlord who owns it is extremely unpleasant and was very rude to me when I made a polite complaint about my vegetarian dish. We were ignored for the rest of our stay in the pub, apart from him sitting sulkily in the corner, drinking a pint and glaring at us every now and then. When an identical complaint was made by the people on the table next to us, he was equally rude to them and clearly thought we had put them up to it. I won't be going back, not because of the disappointing food but because of the terrible service and general courtesy we received while there. Perhaps if it changes hands and that man leaves, as it's a nice pub in a nice location, but on a matter of principle, I won't be returning.

Decent selection of drinks- including Old Rosie on tap, but it's extortionately expensive and has next to no atmosphere compared to the Charles XII next door.

Changed hands recently, and signs looked positive with good guest ales (notably Hopback Summer Lightning, which I adore) and much-improved food. And then, and then, one of the bar staff short-changed me (to the tune of a fiver!) and wouldn't admit his mistake. After much patient insistence he did, but still, that's no way to persuade someone to come back. Since then, I haven't. Shame really.

A pleasant pub with a nice mix of locals from the village and students from the nearby university. They usually have a couple of nice ales on, and always have cheap deals on for lager or bitter. The food is also pretty good.
