I've visited the Maybush a number of times since it re-opened, although much work is still under way before the Grand Opening which I believe is May 7th, with more planned for after that. The ales have always been in great condition and often include offerings from local breweries such as Sticklegs and Harwich Town. Being a community owned pub now there is a friendly welcoming atmosphere, as well as a growing range of events (I've attended puzzle and quiz nights for example, but missed the bingo nights). The pub is great already, but when the refurbishment and kitchen are complete I imagine it will be better still.

A lot has changed - After a period of closure the Maybush reopened in february as a community owned venture. They are trying to put on a good selection of real ales every day, along with lagers, cider and stout on draught available, They are currently open from 6pm to midnight mon to fri, + midday to midnight sat & sun. No food other than crisps nuts etc yet, but we are hopeful of developing the service further. Thursday night have already seen quizzes, bingo and puzzle evenings with more planned for the future. Great prices too.

I see there are some very non-complementary reviews below. I'm house hunting in the area and have visited this pub twice over the last few days, on a Saturday afternoon and a Monday lunchtime. All I can say is that it is very friendly and welcoming.
It has apparently been under new ownership since Feb 2011 and my partner and I stuck up conversations with the landlady, her son and several others in the pub.
There seemed to be a good selection of ales on both tap and draught. There's no food, other than bar snacks. But apart from that, I couldn't fault it.

Now Under NEW OWNERSHIP The Maybsuh Inn will be Re-Opening Saturday the 5th of February 2011 at 7pm.

The pub is under new ownership now and is being re-decorated.

This gaff doesn't even rate as being a pub. It is so unremittingly unfriendly! Makes that pub in American Werewolf look like the Rovers Return!
The landlord looks like a Star Wars reject. His wife is so rude that you'd think she was joking. As far as I can tell this pub is solely supported by a remedial local family who run a cleaning company.
The beer was beyond watered down and the crisps were beyon sell-by. I would only recommend this place for extreme curiosity value. however, hurry - it won't be open long!!!

Well what can I add? the comments from visitors ispeakthetruth2009 and mrs maple are totally congruent!. If rudeness was michelin star rated they would have more stars then Hollywood. Regarding ale and food it is pathetic, the menu and offering is full of misrepresentation and empty of ingredients, well worth the visit from messr GR to give them the big F word in their kitchen.
Might be worth the visit if you are interested in public house history as this one may not be pulling pints for to long.

This pub has the most rudest, disgusting landlord I have ever met. They advertise that all their food is fresh & home cooked - if taken out of the freezer and put in an oven is home cooked - well what can one say?. It wouldn't have been so bad if the quality of the frozen food was Tesco Finest, but I couldn't say where it came from and if infact it was fit for human consumption.

Their child is destined to look like Plug from the Bash Street Kids
