Stone's throw from The Oak, and, if you believe the old barfly I got stuck talking to, the busiest pub in the village - if we'd turned up earlier/on a Friday night/at the weekend, etc. Homely in a similar way the The Rothschild Arms (disappointly, not listed on BITE), but cleaner and neater as if pride had gone into its upkeep. Doom Bar or London Pride on tap – the former was the second-best pint I'd had all night after The Chandos and cheapest of the night at £3.10. The snooker room out the back is a quaint and novel touch.

I was here early last Saturday afternoon and the good news is that this pub is still standing. Shame is I was the only customer as this is a cracking little boozer. Very comfortable interior. Large plasma screen showing Sheff Wed. v Leed U match. They also have a snooker room and dart board. 4 hand pulls but only two in use 1 for Greene King IPA and the other for Sharps Doom Bar. I had a pint of the later which was very nice and cost £3.10.

It seems Ray Kindel is determined to knock this loveley old pub down, he has applied, yet again, to AVDC, to demolish it and build 2 houses. This country needs more free houses not less, If he can't be assed to run it as a pub then he should sell it to someone who will.
|
Excellent, friendly pup and the beer's not bad too!
It would be disaster if this were to pulled down and changed into houses!
|
Good news .... the Planning Inspectorate have refused the owner, Ray Kindel's appeal to demolish the pub and build houses. It may stay a pub yet! ..... Lets hope, if he does not want to run it as a pub anymore, he will now sell it to someone who does.

I thought a nice day out of the bustle of London in the country would be a good idea, so me & my two sons went to Aston Clinton as it was a lovely summers evening.Met up with an old friend Welsh Mike ,he left early said something about Morris coming seemed a bit scared and left.A little while later some cars pulled up these guys got out carrying batons,(I taught of the Clockwork orange incident). I was completely wrong they were Morris dancers from Whitchurch done a great gig. Lovely friendly pub nice people great beer

If Aylesbury Vale give Ray permission to knock down this pub,as that was his intention in the first place there will be upropar in the village.Stand up and prevent this beautifull pub from being knocked down.We are loosing all our pubs

Bad news, it seems the owner Ray Kindel is determined to demolish the pub he is now appealing against the planning refusal to demolish the pub and build two houses.
|
WELL IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THIS PUB IS LIKE YOU WILL HAVE TO GO THERE
|
Pub with large screen to watch football on - but you can avoid it & the games machine by walking further along the bar. There were 3 ales: Lee's Coronation Street, Courage Best & GK IPA - thought the former beer was rather cold. Not been here for several years & it is still a pleasant local - needs more drinkers.
|
Great news that the pub stays a pub (at least for the present I guess) Whilst not on my personal list of preferred village drinking establishments, its demise would be a sad loss to the community.
|
The latest planning applications by the owner to demolish the pub and build houses have been refused by AVDC. It may stay a pub yet!
|
It's a proper pub. Well kept resident ales and ever changing guest ales. No food but who cares when beer and pork scratchings is all the sustenance one requires. It's no good complaining that the landlord owner wants to get a return on his investment. USE IT OR LOSE IT.

Mr Raymond Kindel is still trying to close down this viable and profitable village pub. He has now applied for permission to demolish the pub and build 2 houses. Lets hope AVDC refuse and he sells it to someone who is interested in running a pub
|
The planning application has been refused by AVDC.

The pub didn't make it on to the AVDC Village Pub of the Year shortlist for this reason. Trying to think of planning policy reasons to lodge an objection, I don't think the community pub tack will hold water.
|
Well the owner (R Kindell) has applied to demolish this pub and build 3 x four bedroom houses on the site. (See Bucks Herlad 23.06.10)
Great community spirit - apparently it is not considered the pub is marketable, of course the profits would not be so attractive. But as far as I am aware no effort has been made in this direction (ref the Planning Application, Design & Access Statement)
With the current demise of the Oak down the road, Aston Clinton looks destined to loose two community focal points and be left with the Rothchilds Arms...........what a disaster.
Personally I hope the community objects to this proposal and a willing investor in the Partridge as a pub can be found if Mr Kindell no longer wants it.

Do you know what, I'm really starting to like The Partridge. It's an honest pub, no pretensions of grandeur, well kept beer and a friendly atmosphere.
Interesting guest beers sometimes as well - a bonus when they're on.
As for having been sold, if it has then there's no discernible difference.
|
Rumoured to have been sold !
|
A bit disappointed tonight, the guest beer wasn't ready which seems odd for a Saturday. Otherwise, GK IPA, Courage Best and Adnam's all OK condition, but no variety.
Normally, the great thing about The Partridge is that the guest beer is very good, so hence the disappointment.
Score given as an average over my visits not just this evening.

A great drinking pub with sky sports and a full size snooker table. This is a free house selling an excellent range of ales, lagers, wines & spirits at reasonable prices. As for the landlady Sally she is always smiling and so friendly as are the part time bar staff.
Good beer, Reasonable prices, Very Friendly Pub... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from someone who has been drinking there regularly for 20 years!
PLEASE NOTE.... NO FOOD IS SERVED AT THIS PUB EXCEPT ON DARTS NIGHTS (THURSDAYS) AND SAVORY NIBBLES ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS FREE!
