once again used to be a nice pub a few years ago before a man & his mrs and kids left..
|
Seemed to be close again when I went past the other day, a pub probably on its last legs and will be probably be gone for good soon if it hasn't already.
|
This pub has opened again. The (temporary) sign outside says that it is called The Royal Surrey - the same name as the snooker club next door. Real ales available were Young's ordinary and London Pride, but I didn't have time to stop and sample the quality. As it was a weekday lunchtime the place was virtually empty, so no report on the atmosphere either, I'm afraid.

I walked past and this place looked closed. I am devastated - where will the violent-looking chavs go to drink now? They will probably end up in Ganleys and ruin what is Morden's only pub worth going to.
|
This pub is unique - there are more chavs standing outside smoking their guts out than there are inside. Morden is a sleepy town and does not deserve a pub of such notoriety. One visit was more than enough. Very large premises in need of instant closure. Will hopefully follow the Crown and Lady St Helier into oblivion. Leave well alone unless you enjoy the company of a rather dubious crowd.

This pub was doing ok for a little while but since the current manager and her sister took over there are a lot of fights and blatant drug dealing which they seem to turn a blind eye to. Not a nice place at all. Avoid

Used to drink in here on a friday night.. gets rather busy. lived above the pub sinse july last year. police get called there afair bit... definately got better then what it used to be like.
|
Well actually the pub APPEARS to have been cleaned up .The manager is a decent man and also the lady that appears to be his partner . Unfortunatelly the other bar staff turn a blind eye when they are not in the building and just laugh it off. The food is excellent and the chef a pleasant gentleman who is always cheerful . The place is always clean .

I think the last post of 28/11/06 is rather harsh. I have been going to this pub since the middle of November 2006 and it is a nice pub, and the staff are friendly. The manager has done wonders, as the pub had a bad reputation in the past, but it's image has been cleaned up considerably. There is entertainment, and the locals are friendly. It is a relaxed enviroment and definately worth a look. The prices are reasonable and certainly would recommend this pub!!

The Abbot is now a safe and comfortable pub. The food is excellent and the staff friendly and proffessional. It has started entertainment at weekends and monthly charity events, ie ladies only nights. It also has a strict over 21s policy. This has been acomplished with the introduction of a new manger three months ago. If you don't believe pop down and have a look for yourself.

The picture you have provided does not do justice to the pub. Under new management the pub has improved immensely and it deserves more an eight rather than a measely 6.4. We are regulars at the pub and we love the atmosphere and the staff. Please make a visit to the pub soon and take a look yourself.
