A long walk down dangerous country lanes to find this pub. Average age is 62 and that takes into account the student behind the bar. Big pub - needs some people in it.

The Armstrong Gun is now under new management and has been taken over by a family from Englefield Green and well known amongst frequent visitors.

Importantly Sky Sports & ESPN have been kept on and I am told we will soon be seeing a Big Screen & projector introduced to the Pub. Some noticeable improvements have already been made and a Spanish food menu is "Coming soon".

Good to know that the pub is still children & dog friendly and with direct links between the new management and the local university, there are plans to introduce some Student band evenings.

Worth a visit!!

This pub went through a dodgy period when the old management left a few months ago. But thanks to the return of Lisa, with her partner and their slobbery black labrador it has really turned around. They do a great and verying selection of real ales, in a friendly (if eclectic) atmosphere. It seems that locals and students alike are happy to mingle here, and I heard that they have someone in doing a great roast dinner on a sunday. Viva la Gun!

Popped back in for a beer the other day as I hear the AG may not have long left if developers get their way.

I've always had a soft spot for the pub itself and it'd be a shame to see it go.

Unfortunately five minutes after we'd sat down a fight broke out (it was only 6pm!). Not a great advert really. There is a local nutcase element who get barred from one pub and travel over to the next - they currently seem to be residing here.

Beer was Youngs, average quality.

This place could really be somehting with the right landlord.

it would appear that there is a new landlord in charge, and a lot of the areas undesirables have decided to make this there new home, but hey as long as they stay out of the pubs i drink in who cares.no rating given.

Nobody else there at 1:30 on a weekday lunchtime, so no wonder that the barperson looked fed up. Fortunately the weather was good so that the OK pint of Spitfire could be enjoyed in the garden rather than in the doom-laden atmosphere inside.

Still has Sky Sports and my have Seyanta by the time you visit. Real Ales seem to have settled on Youngs Ors and SN Spitfire. Digger hs been joined by Max - a strange dog who likes computers - which leads nicely to the fact that The Gun has wireless thinternet available FOC. CHeck out the new Pub signs painted by Barman Andy - recent winner of Cheery Barperson of the Year - NNNE Surrey esction. Good village boozer - may it live long and prosper

Seems to have improved greatly, beer is now consistantly good and the new barstaff seem to be much friendlier and attentive. Landlady (?) very pleasant and helpfull. Nice to see a pub improve so much.

Very good Timothy Taylors Landlord on Sat pm. Can understand why some people may perceive the place to be a little intimidating at first, but it's just a good old local and I didn't detect any hostility at all. Definately on the list next time.

This pub now has a resident dog called 'digger'! A very friendly show labrador as hes had his under-carriage removed - poor sod.

London pride seems to be getting better.

I've been drinking in this pub for around 10 years.
It does the best pint of Stella around and is definetly the best pub in the Green.

The locals are all friendly and there is never any trouble. The pub is always extremely smokey which adds to the brilliant atmosphere.

There is a veritable plethora of sports shown on the TV's (4 in total.) Football is a speciality with full SKY package.

The American Pool table is always well kept and they have a Golden Tee LIVE machine.

The negative points are that women are very few and far between in the pub - more of a working mans club atmosphere.

Also the fruitys dont pay out as often as others in the local area.

Back again, first time for over a year and-a-half. Pretty much the same, boasted two ales (Hogsback's Hair of the Hog and Fuller's London Pride) in average condition.

A nice pub to have a drink in. It feels a bit seventies (in a good way) upon entering with a three-sided bar centrally situated, lots of copper-shaded ambience at the front bar giving way to a more normal style at the back, where the pool table is to be found (directly in the way of the toilets, so I bet a bit of aggro has started a few times as a result of one too many people filing past). They don't need a pool table here, it should be junked.

Populated by locals and students, so a nice mix and a decent atmosphere. Recommended for a pint or two before the Happy Man.

Nice pub with a good pint of London Pride and a great Juke box. Nice barmaid with a geat smile too! If there is a negative its the fact that they seem to have a lot of 'wendyball' on the telly - cant have everything I suppose ;-)

TheGP has nailed this one - it's a quality 'real' pub, great atmosphere. Decent beer. Need a machete to cut through the fog of ciggie smoke though.

I really really liked this pub. Can feel intimidating as you walk in as there is a long line of locals welded to the bar. However, they are friendly. Then I discovered the back of the pub and gardem which is surprisingly large. Plus they had good TV's, pool table and jukebox. In fact, this is a proper pub make no mistake.

Would fully recommend a visit.

An old-fashioned boozer, which upon further inspection seems like a labyrinth. Big beer garden and friendly locals.

A nice pub with a good balance of students and locals.

Used to come here practically every night and have had some very memorable times in here. Have to say I do miss it, loads of atmosphere, excellent pool table, friendly crowd (usually!), nice pint of Stella. Retains that pleasant atmosphere cos it's a bit shabby decor wise but it wouldn't be the same if it were pristine. Great jukebox, always up to date. Has BBQs in summer in the large garden. Don't ever change it Stu!

Been living in the area for three years but only just realised how fun this pub is if you want a couple of beers with a few mates. landlord and staff are really friendly. well worth a visit especially if theres a match on.

I really like this pub now. Was a bit put off it before, but really good to watch the football, have a few TVs dotted around with Sky. Drinks aren't cheap though.

Meeting place for the students from Royal Holloway. Good beer, and good fun pub.
