A handsome city bar with a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Pretty poor choice of ale though, nothing local, just Doom Bar which was not in great nick.

Further to earlier reviews, Ryan's does now have two or three real ales on offer - it was a pity that we arrived about twenty minutes before closing so missed the live entertainment and only had time for a couple of rather rushed pints. Nice atmosphere and ambience, and definitely not a "plastic Paddy" type of Oirish bar. Staff genuinely Irish and very friendly.Would go back any time.

A real Irish bar without all the gimmickry that comes with an ONeills etc. Two level bar with wooden floors, there are a few Irish signs etc but nothing too garish. Plenty of flowers and plants around the place, its a bit of a haven of calm in the city centre, hidden up an alley next to St Peters church. The jukebox plays a wide selection of good stuff, not just Irish music (or James Morrision). No real ale as previously mentioned, but its a very friendly place to come for a decent pint of the black stuff.

A sort of half-Irish kind of place, but don't expect to see a bunch of people with fiddles and tin whistles. Very very friendly staff - they bring the Guinness over to you at the table. Lovely food. No real ale.

A fantastic Irish pub serving excellent Guinness. Had a very friendly feel about it. Went in on a Saturday evening and it was busy but not packed. The barstaff also brought the Guinness to our table which was a really nice touch. Seems that this is the pub where James Morrison was discovered... but nowhere can be perfect I suppose (just kidding). A great pub.

Fantastic Irish pub, thoroughly recommended for too many reasons to list here.

Tucked away off St Peters St between Nat West Bank and the Church. Its a genuine Irish bar, wooden floors, furniture, fittings etc., newspapers available, no cask ale but a good pint of Guinness as you would expect. Theres a split level bar with the upstairs part being used for families and food and downstairs for drinking. Probably not one for the tourist but it seems to have a good local following and the decently priced menu is popular with local office staff. The bars claim to fame is that James Morrison was discovered there on an open mic night.

This is tucked away behind the church, but nip in as the beer was ace when I last visited!

Agreement with everything posted. A hidden gem. If you want a nice Irish pint, this is your place.

The only pub in Derby city centre not to need doormen at the weekend. I reckon that's quite a powerful statement in itself. Hidden away behind the Natwest bank, this gem of an irish pub quietly (except for Wednesday) plies it's trade. And before you ask YES it's genuine, with the Fallon family from Dublin owning the pub. Accoustic music nights on Wednesday attract all sorts of talent but a great crowd of drinkers who are more than knowledgeable about their music. All in all a great place to call my local, never will I be afraind of going in and not knowing anyone. Only enter with a friendly face though, its the law!
