Sadly closed down a couple of months ago and currently boarded up! Whether or not it will reopen in the future remains to be seen? I don't think they could pull it down, so I suspect it will be turned into flats with a possible retail unit or two at street level. Another part of East London's rich rock music history bites the dust!

More of a bar than a pub really. On our couple of visits during weekday afternoon''s, we''ve found it friendly, comfortable and cheap. As for "real" beer, one hand-pump serving London Pride which I think was "off" - we stuck to "fizz". I suspect it gets busy at weekends if football is on TV.

since its been converted into a hotel n pub downstairs its mostly used by hotel customers.
wont recommend it.

In the days when Mr Joe Lucy used to be the govnr of this pub it was a fantastic place to go if you really liked rock, everyone there was friendly and there was never any trouble at all, it used to play the best rock around and the man who played the music used to play out of a coffin, the staff where really nice especially the best barmaid in the back room who could serve 3 people at once and dish out the right change, and never forgot her regulars, yes it was in the late 80s a long time ago, this pub was my youth, will never forget it. If they knock the place down i want a brick as a souvenir please thanx

A piece of rock history is dying.
Soon to be gone is the legend that was the Ruskin Arms.In Dec 08 the former birthplace of Rock Icons Iron Maiden is being turned into a surgery and flats. Gone will be my refuge and 2nd home during my youth. I dont think it ever recovered since Joe Lucy(RIP) the former landlord died.
No more trips down memory lane for me. So to S.A.A.C. The Zoo, The Tilbury Mob, Colin and his radio caroline Rockshow and all the ever friendy genuine people who frequented this shrine in its heyday it would be great to give this old mother of a venue a good send off. Anyone up for getting their head down for one last night? I will be there with snakebite in hand and ears buzzing.Rock may never die but this place will be immortal within me. One last hocus pocus by focus.

Shame its closing down in December, this place ahs alot of history.

Used to be a major metal/bikers pub, new owners seem to have run it in to the gorund.

The bands are fewer and of lowering quality

Really sad.

What can i say? smelly dirty. the streets are full of scum in the area. Bar staff very good. Music very dated. Toilets filth. And not a safe area for girls on their own.Couldnt wait to get home to essex.

Really not a bad place at all, the bar staff are very quick and efficient, and very helpful after i left my coat in there the night before!

A few brainless morons round the pool tables, very mixed crowd, a few punks!

Good music if your into metal etc. Watch out for the mid 30's mums who wear too much leather, and reveal far too much skin as is necessary! No trouble usually beer ok.

What a disapointment!
I was expecting a full on rock pub with a good alternative crowd. Not at all.
Fast friendly service at the bar.
The area is a complete shithole. 10 min walk from the station where we were hassled and abused as soon as we got off the tube. Dirty disgusting streets people gobbing everywhere with gangs of youths leering and comments to my girlfriend and sucking their teeth. pretty tense atmosphere even between themselves.

The pub is a nice place with fairly friendly staff, the club bit in the back looks as it did in all the footage of old Iron Maiden gigs.
not my choice of pub but cant complain when my girlfriend wants to see some mates.

the music is pretty decent if you are into the heavy metal scene at all.

Also the home of The Small Faces Convention. Most of the band lived near hear, and Steve Marriott's grandad had an eels stall outside!

OUTSTANDING! I first visited the Ruskin Arms in 1982, and have returned to the Pub every time I re-visit London. VERY warm and friendly environment with great music to boot! The rear of the Pub has a stage/concert room with a history of famous bands which have played there in the past. . . such as Iron Maiden.

The "Home Of Heavy Metal.
Has live bands on Friday nights and club night every saturdays with DJ's Morgz & Revelation playing the best alt/rock/goth/metal.
