3rd Jan 2012 Sign on front says this pub is to close 14th Jan 2012. Understood locally that Landlord is leaving to take another pub at Wookey.
Sign says pub is to be refurbished and will re-open, later in the spring, under new management.

Great location on top of the Mendips.
Been once or twice, excellent variety of beers and cider (including the delightful Cornish Rattler).
Portions enormous, food ok. The ploughmans seems expensive at 8.something until you see it.
Staff young & friendly but busy - as someone else says, you order at the bar.
Don't turn up for lunch on a sunday without booking! Was utterly rammed yesterday.

Have eaten here before (couple of weeks ago) and the food was amazing but disappointed with the Christmas meal. New potatoes underdone and roast potatoes and parsnips overdone. Good selection of veg. Service slow but friendly staff. Chunks of turkey rather than slices so a bit off putting, way too much - took it home for the dog! Would eat there again on normal days but would not recommend for Christmas meal.

Met up with sister-in-law and family for sunday lunch. 8 of us in total. Service wasn't the quickest but fortunately we weren't in any hurry. Meals were good although if I'm being picky the roast potatoes were over cooked (possibly cos we met at 2). Food is ordered at the bar. Nice pub, nice fire going, nice atmosphere. Have added it to our list of meeting places.

This has been a succesful food stop for several years. Good meat used with simple accompaniments. Beer is generally good but there has been the odd bad pint and ignorant response from young female staff so some caution required. Range of beers probably too large, try to have one others are drinking.

Visited wednesday for the first time. Quaint olde worlde pub, quite large in some respects.Young but pleasant enough staff, altjough at one point they all seemed to disappear. We had a fairly long wait for our food, although not busy,it was good plentiful and well presented, but let down by the black flecks of the griddle. The beer selection was good and tasted very good. I was informed by my friend that the gents toilets lacked drying facilities were small and not very clean.

Excellent warm and cheerful pub, the staff were friendly and efficient. Good selection of Ales and in superb condition, the meals were great value. Well worth visiting, but if your dinning get there early as it is very popular.

In many ways this is the quintessential country pub with a cosy atmosphere, plenty of wood panelling, low ceilings, a real fire and lots of old photos and brass horse tacks around the place. Theres a couple of comfy leather sofas opposite the bar, with the rest of the pub being given over to tables and chairs. It seems very popular with diners, but its not the sort of place where you feel unwelcome if youre just popping in for a pint (or two). Theres a decent sided beer garden at the side and a couple of play things to keep the kids amused. The staff are quite young but pleasant enough. It also seems to attract a lot of youngsters, at least on the night we were there, but this is in no way a negative thing. They were all very well behaved and seemed to be sticking to soft drinks. A pleasant change. Good choice of beers on tap Cotleigh Barn Owl, Doom Bar, Butcombe and Mole Catcher. A good choice of ciders as well, namely Moles Black Rat, Thatchers Gold, Stowford Press and Sharps Cornish Coaster this is the only place outside Cornwall Ive seen that. We worth a visit.

Driven past several times without popping in, but today was finally my maiden visit.Sadly arrived at ten past three and discovered they close at three. However the barman was kind enough to serve me still so opted for a beautifully well kept pint of Brains's Rev James. They also had butcombe, doombar, theakston xb and black rat draught cider.Great pub, will have to pop back for a sunday roast sometime as smelt beautiful and the crowd leaving were all full of positive comments, 8/10 (at least)

First visit to the pub In March 2007. Thought the Sunday roast was very good and they gave my 9 year old crackling with his roast pork! Warm & cosy atmosphere, friendly staff. Nice Butcombe bitter. If I had to make one negative comment I would say some of the tables didn't have much space between them and the table behind. But overall very good I thought.

2 visits over 3 years has shown that this place maintains a commendable consistency: on each occasion there was a fine selection of mostly locally-sourced ales and cider to keep the advanced drinker more than satisfied. The pub is friendly, cosy and has plenty of nooks and crannies to secrete oneself in. I haven't eaten here, although much was made of the fact that all their meat is sourced from 2 or 3 local butchers, which suggests quality and passion for serving up good honest grub. Well worth a visit.

This pub has a reputation in the area for it's food, but on my first (and only) visit I was a little disappointed with the limited menu and the food presentation. It's good 'pub grub' but for something a bit special you'd be better off going to the Slabhouse Inn in West Horrington.

Excellent pub - great choice of Real Ales (4 or 5 plus ciders AND all the usual keg suff). Thatchers cloudy on draught. Renowned for it's food. Lively atmosophere with funny (haha), helpful staff. They often run their own mini beer festival - brilliant.
