Stockport is quite deceptive. Look at a map and you think it's a nice easy walk from one pub to the next. But everything is at different levels. The Queen's Head is an old Samuel Smith's pub at the bottom of some large steps. I was in shortly after opening at 11am. OBB is the real ale. But the real attraction here is the traditional interior. There are 3 rooms. Whilst I didn't get past the front bar, the snug in the middle is supposed to be the highlight. The pub seems to attract an ageing clientele. It's certainly on of the cheapest places in town.

The Queens Head was another call on our Stockport pub crawl last Saturday (28.03.14). One real ale was on offer, Sam Smiths Old Brewery Bitter. This was in great condition and great value as three pints cost an astounding £5.40. As I said on my previous review in 2011, the pub is narrow and has lots of little alcoves which are cosy - so it is easy to getting chatting with those sat nearby! This is a pub full of character and charm, a real gem. Again, this was another pub that was very busy during our visit to Stockport, which is great news. Highly recommended if you are in Stockport.

Called in here yesterday for my first time. A classic Sam Smith's house which is very small yet comfortable inside. A pint of extra stout was quaffed and at £2.20, was excellent value for money.
Nice place.

As it's fairly close to the bus station this is the first place we visit on our yearly visit. Fascinating layout, only OBB available for the bitter drinker but at 1.80 a pint half the price we folk have to pay dahn sarf.

The Queens Head is a cosy, traditional pub in the Underbank area in central Stockport. The pub is long and narrow with a panelled bar area at the front, followed by a few booths and alcoves, which lead to a comfortable seated room at the rear. Of interest are the font dispenser on the bar and various old pictures adorning the walls. The sole draught beer is Sams Smiths Old Brewery Bitter, which is always well kept. The pub can get quite crowded and space is often at a premium, probably due to the bargain cost of a pint!

A fantastic pub with very friendly customers. Ask to see the now shut men's urinal. Although Sam Smith's is not my favorite pint who can complain when its only 1.40.

Disappointing on my recent visit. Not a woman in the place and beer quality was poor.

Visiting Stockport on a recent Wednesday afternoon I wondered where the people were.Turns out in the Queen's Head, absolutely heaving.Four handpumps for OBB working overtime and still only 1.36 a pint.
It is located within sight of Robinson's brewery, which I found rather amusing.

Recently saw the pub on the program "Whines and Spirits" on the paranormal channel which was reporting on the pubs resident ghosts. On visiting the pub (bit before watching the program) found it a great place and cheap beer. I found most of the resident drinkers were very friendly, there was a rather psychedelic patron who had more impact than the ghosts....
Upstairs very creepy (if you like that sort of thing)

As usual, Roger B's reviews say most of what needs saying, but I will add that the Sam's OBB is now 1.32p a pint - outrageous !
It's a small pub - but bigger than it looks from outside - with a narrow bar area which makes getting to the cosy quieter rooms at the back a bit difficult. Even at 11.15 am last Friday morning, I had to gently squeeze slowly past the locals to get to the splendid alcoved snug at the rear.
Unfortunately, what with just the one staff member on duty, I felt unable to ask to be shown what is reputedly the smallest toilet in Europe ( according to the Stockport town centre heritage trail leaflet - in which the Queens Head is landmark number 20 )
In common with most Sam's Smith's pubs nowadays, the Sam Smith's external signage has been removed and the photo on this site is now out of date.
As Roger B says, if you like traditional unspoilt pubs, do visit this one.
It's situated virtually directly under St Petersgate Bridge ( from which steps lead down to Little Underbank )

Good beer and cider, too. Very busy bar area. Quiet lounge. Friendly customers.

A wonderful, if somewhat cramped, pub with a fantastic unaltered interior that has been recognised by its inclusion in the CAMRA inventory. A Sam Smiths pub so that means ridiculously cheap prices - 1.26 for a pint of Old Brewery Bitter is beyond the comprehension of someone who rarely gets change from 3. Friendly if rather overworked barmaid although the customer base can be a little worse for wear but at these prices I would easily go down the same path. The main bar is quaintly small with room for a table in the window and a couple opposite the bar. Beyond the bar area is a wonderful little snug and beyond this a slightly larger room at the rear of the pub. There are plenty of paneled walls and several wooden division screens but the most interesting features are probably the old wine / spirit / cordial dispensaries behind the bar, although they do not appear to be functional. Only the lack of smoke reminds you that this is the 21st century and is probably the only thing to have changed in generations although the old photo behind the bar suggests that some of the tiling behind the bar may have either been added recently or restored back to its original state. There are a few interesting old local maps in the doorway and a few old pictures, portraits and clippings in the main bar. This is a real museum piece and well worth going out of the way for if you like traditional unspoilt pubs.

Fantastic pub- lovely interior in an interesting location, belting cheap ale and good bar snacks- sandwiches and the like. Like many pubs in Stockport, a must.

I love this pub. It's impossibly small and cosy but it's a very friendly town centre beauty. Very cheap beer and very friendly bar staff.
