Beer nicely kept, usually 3 on, one normally Butcombe. Garden pleasant to sit in now, but watch those steps when you've had a few.. Cannot sit inside thoughv when sport is blaring away. Discount for CAMRA members.

My first and only visit to this pub so far was made last weekend, and all told I found it to be a rather agreeable, comfortable local which was friendly, served cask ale in good nick, and generally exuded a pleasant atmosphere in which to chat and quaff - which is what a good village local should be. Yes, there may be televisions, but on my emergence here I don't recall them dominating in any sense. The pub was busy given that it was Sunday lunchtime, and plenty of beer was flowing along with food for those who were hungry enough.
A decent half was had - damned if I can remember what but I do recall no dissatisfaction. Sat outside owing to heat (well, beer sweats from the previous night really), although the folk behind and in front of the bar were all very affable and we were made to feel welcome on arrival. Wouldn't have minded staying for another but there was further business to attend to elsewhere.

Stopped for a quick snifter, and noted Butcombe and two other ales on. Butcombe was a very reasonable (these days) �2-70. Personable young lady behind the bar. At one end there were local lads watching a soccer match on the TV, and in the other end (Dining area) all the old boys were watching rugby on another TV. As this constitutes my idea of "Pub Hell", I left, drink at home.

I see the new management have put the Wilkins cider up to �2.80/pt which is a bit cheeky as most pubs round here sell it at �1.80 - �1.90 and it has to be transported all of 2 miles from there farm where it is supplied at about 50p/pt.

Served the excellent local Wilkins cider on my last visit. Shame that the fine old willow tree which used to shade the garden has been chopped down.

When i was 6 I fell out of a Plastic childrens play tree they have in the garden at the back of the pub.I was only partially drunk. A fantastic looking, traditional ale house this one, right on the edge of a road. Its possible to imagine this place has evolved over time from a thatched cider den to a magnificent way house, the boon to many a traveller. All of which stopped during 1976 when some halfwit pebble dashed the place. That aside the interior is functional with enough nooks and crannies to keep one interested. The beer seletion is of course dominated by our Antipodean cousins, with a little help from the Danes. Butts Fine ale used to be available which looked, as all good brew should, like tea stained washing up liquid, while its taste was simply sublime. Upstairs there are pool tables that are easily jimmy-able and a big telly. I once had the privilage of being the only person wearing a West Germany football shirt during an England vs Germany match. Needless to say, the fact I now writing this via a series of blinks... no only kidding. The England fans in the pub took it for the ironic gesture which Id intended and I survived to drink another day. This Inn's a belter.
