This public house is very pretty and we like going there but, what happened to a young lady there last night was very disgusting. We could not beleive how a female member of staff marched up to her face shouting and intimidating her in front of her friends, over not taking her take away drink away but opening it outside, we heard her call her a slag! and she needed to get an eduaction causing the young lady to get histericle as she was trying to explain.
I can't understand why these people work with people when the have no people skills at all, we will never go to the Woodbrough Inn ever again unless this barmaid called JOE is dissmissed! I hope another member of staff has the courage to inform the owner as it is apparent this member of staff is a bully!

Met friends for lunch yesterday and found it v.good. Butcombe in excellent nick, food came up as ordered and quickly. Good welcome and atmosphere. This is a 'middle of the road' pub doing well in an area where others are not: they're doing something right !

Nice pub. Good pint of butcombe and lovely food. Eaten here twice now and both times really impressed, fresh hot and tasty food at decent prices. Restaurant area quieter than main bar as you'd expect. Friendly staff, good service, the accommodation was good too when I stayed the first time.

This has been a popular pub for many years but after today`s experience I really can`t think why this is so. Dreadful service, mediocre food and with it taking two and a quarter hours to serve lunch to a group containing five well behaved small children it was not something I would wish to repeat.

A large popular pub in the centre of the village. Essentially its a big U shape, although the right hand leg looks to be currently used more of a function room whereas in a former life it was probably a skittle alley.

The main drinking bar is at the front, with another bar off to the left that seems to be reserved for diners. Beyond this again is a good sized restaurant area with table service. The pub dcor is tidy and up together, but doesnt have much in the way of character. It all seems a bit identikit, as though they bought all the furnishings off the shelf somewhere. You could be in any number of chain pubs up and down the country with dark polished wooden beams, some exposed brickwork, red checked carpet, brass fans on the ceiling and the obligatory black and white photos on the wall.

It was very busy on a recent Saturday evening though, with most tables taken both in the bar and the restaurant which is good to see in the current climate. Having said that, its the only pub in a sizeable village, so theres not really any competition. The front drinking bar and "dining" bar had a mixed age group, but the actual restaurant area seemed more popular with the older generation. I think the youngest punter in there was about 60.

The menu was extensive and offered something for most palettes, from pub staples such as curry, ham, egg & chips, etc. to more adventurous dishes. There was also a specials board with another ten or so choices. Most of the mains were around the 8 mark, and seemed decent enough value for what we got. My Thai Smoked Mackerel fishcakes from the specials board were certainly very tasty. Staff were all helpful and friendly.

Beers on tap were Butcombe, Courage Best, Doom Bar and London Pride. Ciders were all from the Thatchers stable, with their Gold, Pear and Hobgoblin.

Large county pub with separate bar and restaurant. The beer prices are a little on the steep side but well kept. Friendly, courteous service and a very nice Sunday Roast which was tasty and plentiful. Would recommend.

And does your son appreciate your efforts to publicise his efforts?

"We have been going now to the Woodborough for approx 10 years, we used to live locally but even though we now live in Bristol we still make the 45 min drive fairly regularly.
Phil runs a very smooth operation, his beer is always good, the staff always professional & friendly & the food excellent, we have NEVER had a bad experience there. We have even stayed over using the B&B facilities & the standard of rooms & the breakfast excellent.
Keep up the good work..

Fantastic Pub / Restaurant run by Phil Smith, good food, wine, function suite - the only thing plastic about it is the comment of the other review!

Gave this impressive looking pile a try,The car park full, but alas no one in the pub,Has been refurbished to a high standard, and is very clean and, inviting.
My Butcombe came crystal clear and a nice froth, although the 2nd pint clear, but not as good..Some of the prices were very high, considering the standard of the food, mainly processed/frozen.I don,t mind paying, but to pay top dollar for pub grub that is mediocre is a nonsense..There are better offerings around and ,doing it fresher and cheaper..The menu a hopscotch of countries. If processed food is your forte ok,but sadly not for me..

A bit of a plastic sort of place. No atmosphere.
