Railway Inn, Sandfordback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
As others have said, very much improved since Thatchers took it on a year or two back. Its had a bit of a spruce up, and the rear bar seems now more geared up for dining compared to the rather rough and ready locals bar that I seem to recall from my last visit. Its an attractive pub with a good selection of hanging baskets and flower troughs adorning the front of the pub, and an old railway signal attached to the pub sign to remind you that there was in fact once a real railway here.
The front bar sports a plasma, quiz machine and a darts board but none of that was intrusive and it seemed a pleasant place to just sit and sup your pint. It was a nice day though, so we ventured out in to the adjacent pleasant garden. There were unfortunately a few wasps buzzing around, but I guess thats inevitable with all the cider orchards in the vicinity. If we want our cider, we must put up with such trivial annoyances!
Landlady was very friendly, and there was a good choice from the pub grub menu, including some slightly more unusual dishes such as a sausage sandwich, which Mrs. Blackthorn found most agreeable. The only downside was really the loos which seem to have escaped the refurbishment and were quite smelly.
Beers on offer were Doom Bar, Butcombe and Proper Job, plus keg Henrys Smooth. Ciders were entirely from Thatchers as you might expect, with their Gold, Dry and Traditional.

Had a couple of drinks here on the way home from W-s-Mare. Very good nick, if a little pricey. Landlady Judy is a star, and customers very friendly. We shall be back.

dropped in after a few tasters at thatchers 100m away, fine range of ales and ciders, food looked good and well priced for ham egg and chips, has the feel of a carpeted living room. pub garden was nice

What a welcome change in this pub. A massive differnce from my first ever visit. The staff were very helpful friendly and efficient. It was quite busy with a few reserved tables. I had the Thatchers dry followed by the porter, both very good indeed. I had the somerset pork meal in between, which i must say tasted excellent and, really the best one i've had in somerset so far, I was very impressed and must say shall return with party in tow.

Now taken over by Thatchers cider co and all the better for it so far. Nice range of beers on my visit including an unusual RCH special which I sadly cannot remember the name of. Full range of Thatchers cider on draught and in fine fettle too, but then it only has to travel a few hundred yards.
Landlady and staff very welcoming, ate there and the food was very reasonable and good honest pub grub. Well worth a visit after a cider buying trip @ Thatchers.
