please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Tables and chairs for outside are placed by the entrances, which are very narrow, the theme continues to the rear where a similar garden area although small is situated. The white pebbles that they sit on, remind me anyway of grave setting.? Only went downstairs, doesn't appear to be much seating about, and the ever present big screen TV. The toilets on this floor where miniscule for the size of the place, The place has been re-fitted well, but the homogenised bar, with the usual array of drink offering's was there, and at £3.80p for Doombar I could why the place was lifeless and little customers.? and wasn't particular good either. as I was leaving a girl at the bar ordered a pint of cider and a small coke.(from the syrup Pump) and this was £5.40p. First and last visit for me. I don't mind what I pay,(within reason), but the quality and service has to be there. This is just another of those money making factories????????

Now re-opened as a Mezze chain place. Doesn't seem to be doing much, and security staff on at the car park.?
There is nowhere to go on a nice sunny day, except spill out into the car park.

This pub closed again,? shortly after my last review. and the new phone number cancelled. If the last comments from HOOP DOGG are correct then keep it shut

Matt,
your first step would be to get rid of the regulars like the guys who were snorting coke in the gents last time i was in there. Also may be good idea to expand the pace, for such a large building no much of it is open to the public. you could have a huge pub in great location with a bit of thought & effort. Good luck you don't have much competition on the high street so could be good one !

Large open plan bar with very limited seating, although there was also a back bar so that may have had more. There was a large plasma stuck on the wall showing football and the volume seemed to be rather high, especially as there were only about half a dozen people in there. The barman was outside having a fag when we arrived which doesn't create a fantastic impression, but he arrived quickly enough to serve us. Unusual bar top made of metal - not anything classy like polished aluminium perhaps, but something cheap and nasty. It remined me of the metal they use for some gent's urinals. Ciders were Gaymer's Pear, Natch and Blackthorn. The only beer was Bass, but even that was served through a lager style font rather than a proper hand pump so I don't know what it would have tasted like.

Hoped that a refurb and new management would have bought this place up a notch, but the same clientele seem to frequent, giving it an edgy uncomfortable atmosphere. not somewhere i would fancy visiting again.

The pubs in Portishead appear to cater to strictly different social levels. The big car park beckons you in but only once. Not my sort of place and doubt if its yours.
|
Not a place i would reccomend,in any shape or form, another town center pub that seems to cater for a limited clientelle,no wonder everyone i see walks straight passed
|
Has had a bit of a refurb and gone for the laminate floored thing, presumably to try and rid itself of the dodgy image and dodgy customers it had a few years back.
Can't say I was keen, although the back part still looks the same. Despite the dubious characters I always had a soft spot for it. Sadly no ale available, so didn't stop for long. I hope it improves.

quite a big pub with plenty of parking but rather lackin in real ales, 6/10
