Went in last night but the smell put us off so we didn't stay. Can't say that happens too often but it was as if a clowder of cats had misused the place. With only two handpulls on (one of which was Tribute) I didn't feel as if I was missing out on anything special.

Not very impressed with this pub!
It seems that the beer drinker is a second rate citizen in the Cross Hands, because they appear to prefer people ordering food and do not pay much attention to thirsty beer drinkers stood waiting at the bar, taking every opportunity to disappear around the back of the bar to who knows where?
I left here after waiting for over 10 mins, without any acknowledgement, and went to the Railway Tavern where all customers are valued!
I will not be back....

Nice friendly and cute barmaids,decent ales,comfy refurbed interior,outside seating,7/10

went to the opening night of refurbished pub, nicely decorated and seemed to have good selection of beer, butcombe not great but the pint of Gem was better. Had food which was good, and service from staff was excellent. Hopefully this time, the pub will be a success as Fishponds needs a decent pub with good food as Porto Lounge is cornering the food side in the area.

Closed for a refurb. - again!

Price a bit more reasonable than my last visit at 2.90 for a pint of Fullers London Pride (I only had a half). I normally like it but this was disgusting. It was willingly replaced with something else which was drinkable but not brilliant. They had seven or eight real ales - too many perhaps? There were only six people in, the behaviour of one of them was a bit worrying so I necked the half and left. I hope it doesn't go back to being another dodgy Fishponds pub.

Been in here a couple of times in the last two weeks. New landlord i think? The beer was very good. Approx 2.50 a pint.
|
Dropped in here the other day, to see whether it had changed for the better since the departure of the grumpy landlady. I ordered a half and was told that it would be 1.65 - that's 3.30 a pint! This is a tidy but ordinary pub in Fishponds and it's cheaper in real ale pubs down town, I said 'No thanks' and walked away.

Yet another decent pub screwed over by Enterprise. Only 2 handpulls on during my visit. Quiet but welcoming. Shame these big pub companies dont try and help struggling landlords instead of being greedy and ever pound they can out of hard working people
|
Went in last Friday at about 10.30pm. The 'To Let' sign is still up. Bit of a shame that only 2 of the 10 hand pumps were in use.
|
I hope it still keeps going as it is my "local" when I visit relatives living nearby. It is struggling like lots of pubs at the moment but has always been a good pub to go to and talk without music competition.
My last visit on a Friday evening was enjoyable with good beer. I've never tried any food

"To let" sign on display when I passed last week, although still trading.

How the mighty have not just fallen, but totally collapsed. Ted Lowe the snooker commentator would say "oh dear dear dear"....
8 handpumps-1 blank-5 more with boring regional beers turned around-2 beers on,Deuchars(moderate) and a Butcombe(untested). And this was at 8pm on a summer Sunday. Nobody serving, barman outside smoking. Only 3 others in,no background music, gale of wind blowing in through wedged open door.
No point in bothering again,sorry.

Rating has been revised upwards due to an evident worm turning. The ales numbered 8 on my visit but were mostly regional than micro,Bristol boring Beer Factory being the least famous. Plenty of Sharps and Butcombes etc. The Deuchars IPA i had was very good. Gone is the arty farty gastro food, being replaced by Curry and Rice, homemade burgers and sunday roasts. A better atmosphere was about the place, though the staff still don't seem to want to be there. Young girl was trying to text and pull a pint of ale at the same time. Would revisit purely for investigatory purposes and because the ale was good.

I did like the section of beers and the general atmosphere of the place. It was nice to go into a pub on a Friday night and not have to shout a people becuase the music had been turned up to a ear bleed level. A nice selection of real ales and the staff who served me were all very helpful. The food was nice but I was left wondering what I had actually paid for as the portions were tiny in comparison to the price paid. A nice experience but it did feel as though something was missing.
|
The last poster has said it all, my experience was very similar to his, not much beer, crap/ poorly trained staff, very expensive food, this place is all hype, it's trendy rubbish really, I can't see that it has much of a future, with the Porto lounge down the road for good food, and Witherspoons for a good choice of affordable beer.
|
How about "up its own ass" as a review? Harsh-but sadly fair. Been here a few times this place is seemingly directionless. Loads of handpulls but several blank, others showing unprofessionally altered pumpclips ie.badly written pen on crooked labels. Barwoman who doesn't know please nor thank you licks fingers before serving a bluntly moderate pint. She then returns to her book and satsumas and doesn't notice other punters leaving because of the cold. Not worthy of revisit.

Promised much, but didn't quite deliver. Twelve beers? It was seven. Lunchtime food was of a high standard, but insubstantial. Nice refurb, but scuzzy toilets. I'm torn between giving the place a pasting for ideas above its station (or ability to deliver) and commending it for its ambition in bringing such choice and quality to Fishponds.
|
Much improved. Good range of quality beers.
|
Food is very hotel (expensive & overly fancy). Nice selection of beers. A touch obnoxious, but worth a look!
