user reviews of the Beehive, Bristol

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Nice food in a nice 1930s building with 2 separate rooms, one for dining and one for drinking. The Butcombe Bitter and Doom Bar were both reasonably decent at £3.30 a pint. Worth a visit if intending to eat.

new management, great new pub. top quality food, nice decor, fantastic bear garden but...still (unfortunately) associated with the pub in its previous guises and therefore was virtually empty!
potential gold mine but needs to market more to get people in there- the ony criticism I have but it could make or break the pub!

please try-you wont be let down and that in it self would improve the place

Pleasant pub and family friendly - large garden out back. Only two ales on the dreaded Doom Bar and Wickwar's BOB, which we settled for and was in great nick. Worth a look.

Great food, friendly relaxed service, really is worth a visit or two or three. Good wine, some nice Whiskey and good local beer. However it is the food that makes it worth the journey to go to this pub.

has changed management again!

The split between the restaurant and bar is more clear. Sky TV is gone and the bar side is pleasant for a few nice relaxed drinks.

The restaurant side has been tweaked. Very good chef and staff. Food is delicious.

Sunday Roast is only 9.95 for a 3 course set menu. Delicious food and reasonable size portions.

Has now closed. The new management spent plenty of time and money refurbishing the pub but they didn't keep up the effort and things began to slide until it closed a few weeks ago.

Hopefully someone will pick up the lease and try harder.

Sadly on the slide again. No bitter in the house; "New Menu" has been "coming soon" for at least six weeks, and is sorely needed. The very professional and helpful staff have gone and the Landlord's extremely rude father is driving regulars away. A real pity after such a promising renaissance!

On Sunday 26th I visited the newly refurbished Beehive pub for the third time, but this time for my first Beehive Sunday Lunch. For 5.95 I got a large serving of home-made traditional roast lamb with Yorkshire puddings and all the trimmings. Very good quality of food. I would suggest you get there early on a Sunday, as they often sell out of food by around 3pm.

A very friendly service and great guest beers on tap (Butcombe being my personal favourite at the moment). I'd highly recommend this pub to anyone looking for a traditional family style pub. Reasonably priced food and drinks, and a great friendly atmosphere.

Approaching this very newly reopened pub you are greeted by a clean and snappy exterior - completely redecorated with new signage and glowing lights - makes you want to go inside - if you do venture inside you won't be disappointed as the interior of the pub is just as good. Fresh and clean and redecorated with original 30's features. The people serving behind the bar are polite and friendly. The garden is large and very pleasant to sit in. This pub is on the way up again and locals that used to go there many years ago are now going back/ You should give it a try.

All change! The previous comments no longer apply - the 'Hive' has reopened under new management following an extensive refurbishment - the character has been kept, just a lot brighter and fresher. The staff are attentive and courteous. Having just reopened, hot food is not on the menu yet but will be shortly. The gardens have been tidied and there is plenty of room for all. A generally pleasurable atmosphere. The outside of the building has also been redecorated with new signs and lighting offering a warm wlecome.

The Beehive used to be a great place (many years ago) however it HAD been going downhill and so the reputation has been less than good in recent years.
However i have found out that it is due to open again soon under new management and having had some significant money spent on it to bring it back up to, and beyond what it was in its heyday i believe that this will be a good place to visit once it reopens.
we need some more of these friendly, traditional pubs around these 'corporation' pubs are ok, but in my opinion you can't beat the old style pubs that know you as a friend rather than an income.
I would love to walk into a pub and have a landlord say 'Hello Tony' as i walk in.
So i look forward to the Beehive opening and will be paying a visit as soon as i can and look forward to these traditional values coming back.

Has been closed for some time now.

Sign up inviting new gullible rentee's to take over but with the prices some of these pubco's charge I wouldn't hold your breath. Shame, used to be a decent pub going back 20 years ago or so (Showing my age now! lol )

I visited this pub today (29/03/07), keen to spend some money. Unfortunately there was no one manning the bar. I waited patiently for several minutes, coughing, moving about, doing the usual things to attract attention apart from shouting out. Eventually I tracked down a lad I believe is the publican's son. I asked if anyone was serving; he asked me why, and then told me that someone would be there 'eventually'. At this point I walked out, but as I got in my car the boy came to the door and made a gesture. So, if you want to visit this obviously failing pub, good luck to you!

This pub has gone so far downhill. It used to be a nice, comfortable place with good beer and good, reasonably-priced food. It has become totally scuzzy, your feet stick to the floor, bits are falling off the walls and it's full of lairy drunks. Someone needs to take this place in hand because it could be so much better.
